Who else has a Cold Steel SF Shovel?

I am note sure where this thread belongs, but what the hey.

Who else has one of these? I dig this little guy! It will dig, do light chopping (with one edge sharpened), use as an emergency paddle, drive stakes, etc. and it even throws well; all for twenty bucks! It is practically indestructible and as dangerous as any tomahawk can be when needed! Remember, this was the preferred hand to hand weapon of trench warfare during WW1. Some of my friends almost laugh at my tiny shovel UNTIL I show them what it is capable of. Furthermore it looks totally "legit" under my 4X4 truck seat. It is basically a direct copy of the Russian Infantry shovel. This is one of the best all around tools I have ever bought.

:)

For those who haven't already seen it, Fred Perrin does a great review of the CS SF shovel in his own inimitable style. ;)

I've also got mine right next to my front seat. I left a little mud from the Burning Man on it so that LE officers wouldn't argue that it's a weapon because it never gets used as a shovel.

I sharpened only 2 of the 4 blade edges, which I use for hacking brush, etc.

I'm not sure I'd agree that it's quite as dangerous as ANY hawk, although pretty close. Two Hawks' Warhawk model is a lot faster in my hand and I would select it if given a choice between the two. However, I don't think I can get away with that next to my car seat!

Have one, had it in my car for a while until I decided it was more or less useless for "car use", well, not useless, but not good enough. For car use I'd use it to dig snow (yeah, happens that one gets stuck in snow here now and then). Replaced it with a surplus swedish military folding shovel with attached aluminium snowblade, thats much better for that and equally good for most other things.

I still like it as a nice toy, but unfortunately I broke the handle some years ago, and haven't come around to replacing it. Not easy to find replacements handles for it here in Sweden, and I haven't taken the time to make one myself either.

As a nice (and some things about it is really impressive) toy, yes. As a serious digging tool, no I don't think so! Might reevaluate the impression if I had to try to dig a foxhole while beeing shot at. :D

I bought one of these some time ago, yes you can cut, chop, throw, stab and dig with it, but it does not do any of these well. After reading Fred's review and having experienced the chopping ability of the shovel I was left very impressed with his physical ability as chopping through a log with the shovel is not by any means trivial.

I have one split some small logs just to see if could be done-it took some effort, but, aged wood came apart. In a pinch it is better than nothing.

I bent mine prying something (I forget what) with it.It didn't seem hard to do if I remember correctly. But then again I am not a small person either.
