The mint julep has long been a Southern favorite, and the best place to drink one, of course, is the Kentucky Derby. The second best place, IMO, is Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans. Hurricanes aren't the only things they make well down there.

I have a modest herb garden by the house, and mint is one of the things that I keep growing. I make the occasional mint julep, but lately, the wife and I have been making Mojitos like they're going out of style. Fresh mint, lime, sugar, club soda, light rum, ice. That's it. Just a great drink for a hot summer day.

I'm slurping one up right now. Who's with me?! :D

I have no fresh mint. :(

But I will put a little rum in a toddy and drop it down the chute!

Skoal! Prost! Etc...

[Drank a lot of mojitos during my South American days. An excellent drink. Reminds me I still have a peculiarly shaped bottle of power SA Pisco Reservado laying around -- a kind of powerful brandy made from cane.]

I'm with ya! :D But as always....I'm drinking Ale. I sometimes drink whiskey....like the 2 bottles of Knob Creek on the 4th :p I've got simple tastes

You drank two fifths of Knob Creek in one day and you're still typing? :D

We started the 4th with about 15 of us.... 5-30 packs of piss, 5 cases of New Castle (my drink), a couple gallons of rum, a bottle of disgustingly potent wild turkey, and the two bottles of knobers.......I got 2/3's of the way through the first bottle by myself in about 1 1/2 hours before a few of my buddies finally helped me finish the rest....(I don't remember starting the second bottle but I figure I killed at least another third) or the subsequent 2 mile bike ride to the beach.....I do remember doing some great body surfing so it must not have been THAT bad :p

Sadly the best mojito I've ever had was in...

Dublin, Ireland.

Ruined me for all other mojitos. Not that I don't keep trying.

Paul,
I trust that all the sharpened INFI is safely put away druing these time of......well, having a good time :D Sounds like you started the 4th with a fifth ;)

Does morrocan tea counts?

A minty tea full of sugar is great during a warm day. With a little shisha to smoke.

Physics, you should try to grow your own mint, that thing grows SO fast.

No minty things here. I with ole reliable, Kicken Chicken and coke.

:D actually....later that night after being punished for celebrating too much too fast I split some wood for the fire pit ;) it took a little concentration.....TRUST ME :o but the fire was nice! So were the 'mellos. If I could only figure out where my bike went.........hell, maybe I chopped it up!

I need the time...and the will. Perhaps I shall find both!

Also need to keep the local wildlife away from it. My little basil patch was decimated by some as-yet-unidentified local varmint! So much for hand-made pesto, eh?:)

Mint, once established, is kind of hard to get rid of. I sometimes find myself "weeding" it more than picking it.

What is shisha, or do I dare ask? :p

Shisha is the flavored tobacco the middle easterners and egyptians smoke out of hookahs....like the caterpillar in alice in wonderland ;). It's generally long strips of tobacco that's wet and flavored with glycerine flavoring. It's pretty much ALL red colored. You put it in a clay bowl, cover it with perferated tin foil and set a coal or 3 on top. You suck the vaporized smoke through the water at the base of the hookah through your hose to get a cool, smooth smoke that's very strong and flavorful. It's a pleasant experience. I wouldn't think there'd be many hookah lounges in your area :D You can buy them off the internet though..inexpensive. It's a fun social activity....not to mention you get a rediculously concentrated tobacco buzz.

:D Yeah you probably did, poor bike, it's probably reduced to ash....unless it was made from INFI  That's it an INFI Bike...I'll take it :D

Ha!!! Located my bike.....it's a couple miles away at a friends house :D He was looking out for me and took it home so I wouldn't have to try to squeeze it into my Honda SI Hatchback again :p That was a SONOFAGUN!!! I'm a large guy that was driving with my legs bowed to the sides and my chin practically on the steering wheel :p I'm sure it looked rediculous!
