I know there are quite a few members from around the Gulf Coast. What are you doing to get ready, or were you already good to go? Me, I fueled up the vehicles and a couple of containers. Took a quick food inventory, and decided to get another case of water, a few more canned goods, and another pack of AA batteries. I've secured all the patio furniture and garbage cans. Down at the river camp, we've taken all the boats out of the water, except one, and froze as much water as we could in the deep freeze. We did this last time and managed to keep all the fish and venison froze until power was back online. I'm not expecting much, although they are saying now the storm surge is going to hit during high tide. Besides that, maybe a bunch of rain, gusty wind. Best of luck to everyone.

Good luck! What about beer? Good for bartering if power stays out. Guy down my road would help me move downed trees for a 6 pack.

I've always got beer. In the past, the powers that be have suspended alcohol sales during and after storms; I learned my lesson.

Got most of my supplies on hand...just waiting to see what happens...should start raining here in about an hour...

Good luck to everyone in the path of the storm.

Think of this as the perfect opportunity to go outside and practice your fire making skills in the wet and the wind.

Just kidding. Stay inside and be safe.

Ha! Bob, I thought about trying a few different firestarting methods during the worst of it, but my wife is already concerned with my preoccupation with creating fire.

She'll probably have you committed if she catches you outside trying to start fires in a hurricane. Actually, the thought is amusing, and I'd love to see film of it, but stay inside and take care of your family.

Good luck, and I hope everything works out well for you (no flooding, no blow-downs, etc).

god speed.

and remember the keep a fire extinguisher handy. not alot of people would consider the fire extinguisher a first priority during a hurricane but electrical fires are quite possible during power surges or electrical shorts. its not necessary i guess but its piece of mind. especially because the fire department probably wont be able to get out to you in time.

I live in the Panama City area. We always keep storm supplies ready just in case so no big rush to get ready for us. I will put a couple of large plastic garbage cans at the drains from the roof to catch water just in case and I filled up the cars and lawn tools gas cans yesterday. Looks like this one will just be a lot of rain for us here futher west it could get a little nasty.
