Who else likes the "clump"?

I come on here and other sites all the time and hear people complain about the clumping of this multitool, or the clumping of that multitool.... how it needs to be fixed. Honestly, I LIKE the clumping! I mean, I'm looking for a tool, and there they are, all of them on that handle. All I have to do is pull one out and they all make themselves known. It's never been an issue for me. After all, it's not like it's hard to just push the others back in once you've selected the one you want. I understand how it may annoy alot of people, but I personally don't mind. I don't mind a loose multitool either. I like being able to flick it open one handed, as long as the intergrity of the tool isn't compromised. Anyone else like a well used, loose, clumpy, easy to get to tool?

Clumping isn't an issue for me too... I still own and use the classic LM Supertool and Wave, and find no trouble at all with the clumping. Just push them back in the handle and be done with it. =)

I don't mind clumping at all. Just the other day, I picked up a SOG powerlock on a whim. I have always been a leatherman fan, but I wanted to give something else a try. It clumps, and is not a "fast" tool other than the pliers (which are awesome), but this is no big deal as I EDC a Crunch (also not a "fast" tool) It even says in the SOG manual that tool clumping is normal.

The reason that clumping is a convenience is that Leatherman-style tools themselves have a design flaw of having all of the tools buried inside of the handle. I think they can come up with a better way of getting to the inaccessible tools other than making the tools stick to each other. I definitely see what you mean about it making things a little more convenient, but I think it'sjust helping one flaw by making a new one.

Wouldn't say I prefer clumping, but easily adapted and never even thought it a flaw. After ten years of dealing with Super Tool clump, accessing Core implements one at a time seems odd, not that I'm complaining. :)

Having carried various multi's for over 10 years, it really isn't an issue for me and I'd probably be lost now if they didn't clump:rolleyes:

No problem here either, on the contrary, sometimes clumping makes it easier to pull out the smaller tools on a multi, the one's you can't seem to get out so easy.

I prefer the clumping as well. There are several tool brands that have the issue of clumping and I think it works well to bring the tools out from the recessed handles. Moreover, I've never found a decrease in time or an increase in convenience by using a tool that does not clump. If there was any quantitative advantage to using a tool that doesn't clump I feel it would be lost on me. I am pretty sure though this comes down to what you're used to doing.

The other aspect of clumping I dislike is that it places sharper tools closer to my fingers. I got a mild cut trying to separate a few tools/blades.

True. If one were to examine the smaller tools/drivers found on the older/original Leatherman tools (i.e. fine and philips screwdrivers), they'd find that there are no nail nicks on them and that they are deep into handle... Thus, the clumping actually aids the user in getting to the nail nick-less tools. =)

I've only used Victorinox multitools and they don't clump. I'm glad they don't because that would suck.
