I realize Redwood Burl isn't the best choice for some knives, due to it's being a little softer than other woods, but I feel it should be fine for smaller knives that won't see hard use like chopping, etc... Especially, if properly dried and stabilized.

I also feel that Redwood Burl can be some of the most beautiful stuff out there! As proof, I offer these two pics of a couple of pieces I got on Ebay last week(actually, they should show up anytime now).

One piece is 2 and 5/8" X 4 and 5/8" X 1 and 1/4" and should make a nice small bowie/large hunter handle. The other piece is only 5/8" thick, but is 4" X 5 and 5/8". After stabilizing, these pieces should work out just fine, I'm thinking. :)

I had this redwood burl stabilized and it is as solid as any other stabilized wood. It polished up beautifully.

I picked up a beautiful dyed and stabilized piece at this past BLADE show. It's in my possibles stash.

Hey Danbo, nice wood. Let us know what it costs to stabilize them and who you have do it.
I've got a bit of that stuff around and I've always been hesitant to send it off...

the last piece of redwood I got was very fragrant....even after being stabilized....loved it!

Tom, these two small pieces just might be even nicer than the awesome, huge chunk you sent me awhile back. Look how tight the eyes are on this stuff! :)

It's really nice stuff. It soaks up oil (tung oil, deft, etc) even after being stabilized which makes it look at the better.
