I can't begin to tell you how much I love that smell of burning sticks after a good workout. And that haze in the evening air that follow... Yes. I love it.

Surely I can't be the only one.....

No, I feel the same way! I like it even greater when it is coming from the other guy's sticks, more than mine.

I tossed a destroyed stick on a fire once and that also smelled great. If you are a real fanatic about the scent, maybe it would be worth cooking some Filipino style pig over rattan? [Mostly kidding---for all I know, it could taste terrible or make you sick.]

Who doesn't like that burning rattan smell? Remember your first class? I was wondering what was on fire until someone told me it was the sticks.

Funny this thread should be here, now: I just started Kali training and yesterday was the first time I smelled burning rattan.:)

Up until yesterday, I never smelt burning sticks before. Then again my sense of smell is next to non-existant (thanks to 10 years of smoking). But one thing I realized, is my sticks are loaded with linseed oil, and yesterday was the first time I went at it with someone who either didnt have a loaded stick, or taped stick. And it was his sticks that had that burnt smell. So does loading with oil, prevent that lovely burnt smell from happening, or was it just my heavier sticks hitting his lighter, un-loaded sticks causing more friction on his than mine? Make any sense?

I the art I study (Kuntaw) we treat our sticks with mineral oil and they still make smoke and smell cool.
