Hey ; guys. I was recently sharpening my mothers Spyderco Toad. Its in Aus-8. I bought it for her.birthday. very nice little knife.indeed. Quite strong . Exceptional push cutting ability. I must say . I wish l got one.of those for myself. I initially underestimated the knife because of its size. But l was proved wrong. Does anyone.else here own.a.spyderco Toad ? How do you guys like the knife. What do you use it for ? Don't you wish it was available in VG-10?

That D'Alton TOAD model is probably now for sure one of the top 10 most rare models that was at one time in the main line up. I don't think it ever had much popularity when it was in the main line up. I only remember of 2 friends of mine who had one out of dozens of people I talk to on a regular basis>> so that kind of tells you that it was a flop at the box office to be sure.

But a lot of times the ones that fail to appeal to anyone become really decent collector pieces because of their rarity alone. And keep in mind we have acrued many new collectors over the past 8 years or so on both of these Spyderco Forums and many of them are in search of these older models. It is a very interesting and curious looking blade>> it sort of reminds me of a "cigar knife".

If I were you I would keep it as a safe queen and I bet there will be a day that model if it's new in the factory box will fetch some decent money someday. Because there are a lot of us who love those older Spyders.

I couldn't agree more with you J.D . From a practical point of view l will never sell it ; because l gifted it to my mother. And she is very happy with it. She actually had her jewellor attach a chain to the knife to wear it on her neck. She owns a fashion boutique; you see. She uses it to slice up fabric and open letters. And l think the knife's size and shape were two reasons why it was a flop during its production days. You can't really do much with it. I mean ... a 1.4 inch blade shaped like a paper cutter isn't really useful. My father actually called the Toad a little souvenir.

I remember when the local Spyderco dealer had one in the case. I held it several times over the course of a year or so. It was one of those models I almost bought, but never could get past the MSRP that the shop owner had as the price. (I didn't do the internet buying thing back then.) I thought of it as a cigar knife too, that's what I was thinking of using it for.

It is one of those knives I kinda wish I had gotten...But honestly, I don't buy knives for investment purposes. I would have long ago sold it off or given it away. I only keep the users and that one wouldn't have made the cut. Kinda like running into a 45 year old mother of three that you had a crush on in middle school.

Grizz

I had to look it up, hand't seen one. Here is a photo for anyone else! :)

I remember seeing them & thinking they were too small and ugly for my tastes. I would definitely buy one if they brought them back out.

Thank you very much for the photo. I wish (and have asked) that with every new thread about a Spyderco that a photo is posted too. We can't possibly know them all . A photo sure makes the thread more interesting .
