This doesn't seem worthy of a post but, to avoid a fight and to learn the rules for future sales, I'm trying to get a mod to sort this once and for all.

See the thread for the details, basically ctrsurf is claiming he posted first and I'm saying GuestWho101 sent a PM first and gets the sale. I assumed the sale rules were up to me, the seller, but ctrsurf is trying to claim that it's a forum rule that the sale goes to the first "I'll take it" in the sales thread.

Thanks

I'll be waiting for a definitive answer for my own information...hope it gets posted here or in the original sales thread

There is no "rule" that requires one to post in an ad.
Some sellers do it that way; most accept first commitment (that doesn't include committing, then trying to negotiate after the fact). Regardless, the bottom line is that a seller can sell to whomever he chooses - regardless of order - the whole first commitment thing just helps avoid a bunch of butthurt (most of the time)

Yeah that's what I always assumed. I've seen many sales threads where the sellers say they can refuse sale to anyone they want. I've had to deal with people not paying right away before and passing someone up for a delay, but this was the first time two people wanted it in the same minute lol, so I just wanted to confirm. What you say sounds right and what I had already said, so I'm going with that until a mod says otherwise. Thanks for the input.

The seller sets the rules for his own sale thread. If he doesn't make them explicit, he is reserving his decision until he's ready. He may sell it to a friend offline or pick whichever BFC bidder he likes. Maybe someone he's had good deals with before. Maybe avoiding someone he doesn't like or doesn't know.

His knife, his sale, his decision.
