Who gets to use the pm3 moniker since...

Not a big fan of their practices lately. The have a blatant ripoff of the Rockstead Higo Ironwood out recently.

I'd say at this point everyone knows Boker does this sort of thing. Not surprised by the scruples of that company one bit.

My guess is Spyderco won't have much of an issue with it because the "PM" is a moniker/nickname coined by the customers and knife community in general. Spyderco calls it the "Paramilitary." So, as long as Boker doesn't go that far, then I think it's a non issue.

Of course, I could be wrong. It's just a guess.

From the Boker site "The PM-3 (PM stands for "Police knife") is a handy and rugged utility knife that not only gets the job done during the daily work routine".

How does PM stand for Police Knife???

Polizei Messer.

It's a German company, remember? :)

Not a big deal people.
It doesn't look at all the same, and the name is not the same.
No one will be confused...other than the people in this thread. :D

Thanks, I don't speak German but that certainly makes sense. I agree that no one that actually looks at it will confuse it with a Spyderco since it has a totally different look.

I had to use a translation app, but I remembered the "messer" meaning knife, from some other knife I looked at way back when. :)

I'd probably buy a Paramilitary instead of it though; the Boker looks like an okay knife, but just doesn't click for me somehow.
Guess that's why I have more Spyderco's than Boker knives; Spyderco has more that just jive with what I'm looking for.

Boker just launched a knife with that name?

I thought Spyderco already made it clear they were not going to use that as the name for the smaller version of the Paramilitary...?
So, kind of a moot point.

While slightly unrelated, I too noticed that and was quite discouraged to see.
Here Spyderco is trying to do all they can to eradicate copies, fakes, and counterfeits... then one of their market competitors goes and labels a knockoff of an elite product as their own. WTH.

That's why I noted it as a moniker. Eg your saying Spyderco never calls them the pm2?

If you are referring to what I said, I was in agreement with you that Boker is trying to undermine Spyderco a bit here. However, I felt it necessary to indicate Spyderco may not mind another knife called the PM. I really don't think it's a ripoff of the Spyderco Paramilitary series to call another knife a PM. Think of it this way.....everyone calls a Qtip a Qtip regardless of the brand, but you don't see Qtip putting up a fight about people not calling the off brand a "swab" instead of Qtip.

Heck, if you think about it, it's kind of a compliment. Everyone here knows a Paramilitary is called a PM for short and I think we are the only ones who really give a crap about that sort of thing.

I related that I believe Spyderco has never officially used the moniker "PM" when promoting the product, at least not that I've seen in print. I could be wrong but I don't think Spyderco would officially call any knife they make by an acronym. If they did they would have long labeled the Paramilitary section of the catalog the PM section.

so...Boker calls it the PM-3 but it looks a lot like a Tops/Buck CSAR-T folder to me...interesting.
have they had a PM-1 or 2?

The PM2 or PM3 is not the official name of any Spyderco and seems to be more of an acronym used online where acronyms are common. I verbally always say Para2 even if that is not actually the official name either. Also, PM3 does not apply to the new 3" Paramilitary which is going to have its own model name. PM3 will eventually be the acronym for the third revision of the Paramilitary and considering the stellar sales and pure awesomeness of the Para2 as it is I would guess that the Para3 is still more than just a little ways out. Boker's knife may very well have come and gone by then.

^^^ This. AFAIK, Spyderco has never asserted any rights to the mark "PM3."
