I gave it several tries and the mess just wasn't worth it. The grease does give you slightly more life out of a belt and keeps the blade slightly cooler.

Tried it again with Castrol Stick Wax fro MSC.
I have four sticks I would ship to anyone who wants them for the cost of shipping.....
Instead, make yourself a scraper to keep your platen cleaned up from a piece of 1/16 thich by , say an inch brass sharpened to a fine edge....and resharpen as needed....the brass won't scar the steel on the platen.... and you can clean the platen of belt adhesive residue every so often....and do it often....especially if you flat grind your blade on the platten...like for traditional pattern folders....

so you would put the grease on the underside of the belts?

I have been out in my shop tonight doing some grinding on a blade that i just forged this morning.
Im doing the heavy work of grinding down to the outside lines of my knife and the platten and belts always get very hot.

I have been thinking that there should be a way for me to cool the platten down without needing grease or water flying all over.

I would make some type of "thing" behind the platten that would hold one of them freezy things that you put in with your lunch coolers.

I do use wd-40 on fine belts when working some delicate handle materials, but not on metal. Mike
