I'm in the market for a new knife. I have a 710 axis and absolutely love it. The Ares is an attractive looking knife. Who here owns one, and can give me some feed back on it? Maybe comparing it to the 710. I have the 710 in M2. How does the 154CM Stainless Steel rank? Do you prefer plain edge or combo? Thanks for the input.

WadeF,

I have a 710SBT and a 730BT. I would be hard pressed to tell you which one I like better. The color in the g 10 on the 730 is different, for me I dont think it adds to or detracts from the knife.

154 CM is the American made version of ATS 34, no real difference between them.

My 730 seems a little smoother than the 710 although neither has been used hard at this point. The difference may be no more than a slight difference in pivot adjustment.

The handle on the 730 has more rounded cross section, and seems to be better designed overall.

Closed the 710 is slightly larger, blade length on the 730 is about 1/2" shorter.

I don't think I am apt to throw either one out in the near future, but if I had to make a choice between the two it would absolutely be the 730 . . . This week.

Love it. I didn't like how the 710 fit my hand, but that's something which differs from person-to-person. If you do a search of this forum, its archive, and the review forum, and use "730" in the search box and my name in the 'user name' box, you should find several of my posts on this knife.

M2 is a great steel, but a big part of that (not all, but important) is the added toughness, which is less of a factor when looking at folders than when looking at fixed-blades.

I really don't think you will be disappointed if you get a 730, and make sure to avoid combo-edge. Serrations have a few specialised uses, and giving up a good portion of your blade to that is 'kinda nutty.' Of course, this is all my opinion, but I'm not alone.

I have the 730 BT plain edge. I also have the 710 in plain edge. I really enjoy both knives although if I had to do it again I would forgo the black teflon coating. I think the 730 has better fit and finish. My 710 blade is off center between the liners while my 730 blade is very close to being centered. Both are great knives with great locks.

I have one. I messed up the edge a little.... the edge looks a little recessed now because I can't make up my mind which edge angle I want and so I've been regrinding it constantly.

In my opinion the 730 is the superior knife, I have handled many of each.
