How common were these knives--110 blade with fancy aluminum handles? Bernard Levine might call these handles "coined". Stamped with a die I suppose, but almost look engraved.

Wirebender,

The Buck Classic or 111 was made back in the Urban Cowboy days. They were made for several years and are quite common. There are several variations of the 111 and also several smaller versionsa as well. The soft aluminum scales scratched easily though. They are somewhat collectible now.

Dark Nemesis- I can't post a picture, sorry. Just imagine a very thin, very light 110.

Buckcustom- Yes, I remember seeing the smaller ones advertised now. Wish I had bought one at the time. I figured you Buck guys would be all over this, but I posted here to see if the general population ever bought these knives. Guess not. In the late '70's, I bought a Case lockback that was just a 3" blade and two aluminum slabs for handles. Greatest thing I had ever seen, I could quit carrying that heavy old Sodbuster. Then I saw a 111 and I could actually carry a large knife in my back pocket. No more heavy 110 on my belt. This was a big deal to me at the time. Of course, the bikers I worked with made fun of me, but I got 'em back when they finally started carrying the new-fangled plastic handled knives.
The Gerber LST and Spyderco changed the knife world, but those first aluminum-handled knives were kind of a predecessor. Maybe I have my timeline mixed up here, I don't really know exactly who came first with what.
