Who has a Case Desk Knife and what do you like / dislike about it? Photos appreciated.

I got one for the girls at the office where I work. They love it....when they remember to use it! It has stayed sharp for a long time, but it is about the size of my SBJ and I always want to close the dang thing when I'm done with it because I'm used to my pocket knife. I don't have any pics, but it looks exactly like the ones on the websites. I got the one that says "Office Knife". I thought it was classy looking.

I do love the box and sheath. The knives are great if you want a fancy letter opener. :D

I got one with Ebony not long after they came out. It's right beside me on the lamp table in the living room. It doesn't look out of place, and even looks good there IMO. I love the knife, and I grab it more than I do any other when I need to open boxes, mail, or anytime I need to cut something while I'm in my chair.

It has a pretty long blade for the handle, and is stouter than it looks in pics. Mine wasn't very sharp when I got it, but other than that it had great fit and finish, decent grinds, and feel it was well worth the money.

I have one given to me by a brother when he stayed here for blade a couple of years ago. It did come out of the box almost as dull as a butter knife, which I found odd for 154 CM, but a little time on a stone fixed that problem. I keep it on my desk and use it daily for light work such as mail opening and odds and ends in the den, but it is as Ken pointed out a nice stout blade capable of a lot more.

I think the desk knives are based off another Tony Bose pattern. I had a custom one made by Kerry Hampton, with a teardrop shaped handle. I say had because I owned it for less than 24 hours. As soon as my wife saw it she claimed it for herself. She says that it's better than any pocket knife because she doesn't have to worry about breaking her nails.

I don't have one of the Case knives, but I have a couple by Tony and Kerry. I imagine they have their uses, but I've never found a place for them. I prefer a heftier fixed blade and frankly, I've never been one to use a knife to open letters. I'll post pictures if you want, but since it's a Case knife thread I'll refrain for the time being.

Thanks for the information. It will be used for letters, cleaning nails, slicing pizza and odd jobs in the house. It is just one of those that says try me, you'll like me.

I bought one as a gift for the lady that does my taxes for me and, of course, I CE'd & CF'd it before I gave it to her to make sure it was a good knife. It came sharp and was beautifully made just like the SBJ except fixed blade of course. I want one for my own and would already have one if I hadn't committed to buying a jack from Keith Johnson and the forum knife last year.

I wonder if the level of sharpness is meant to approximate what a non knife person would expect with a letter opener?

Most non knife people, if they received a sharp "desk knife" would probably immediately hurt themselves, and then complain to the company!
