Both of those caught my eye and I wanted to get some feedback about them. Anybody got these things, have used the a good deal, and what do you think about them? Thanks.

hey saw your post,,,,,,AND decided to give you some feed back i used to have a pentagon elite and i would recommend it to anybody had to be the best knive i have ever owned it is very sturdy and strong has a awesome locking mecahanism,,very easy to flick open, good weight to it and a nice size blade 4/2 inches....Also make sure to get a good sharpening kit to keep it razor sharp......But ya its a great knife wish i still had mine lost it about 2 years ago while montain biking....THE only problem is its pretty expensive i got mine inasnley cheap from a buddy only spent 15 bucks on it

I'd like to tag on here... I don't have the folder but recently purchased the full size "PENTAGON", fixed blade. It has surprised me; on the good end of the scale!

It's edge was a tad short of impressive when it arrived, 5 minutes later and it's surgical sharp. However, what impresses me most is it's strength - I've already put it to hard tasks (clearing saplings, weeds, undergrowth - just to gauge it's ability) and "WHOA", I never expected this level of performance from a dagger.

I decided on this as a financial alternative to a "DOZIER", "NEALY" or "High Dollar APPLEGATE-FAIRBAIRN". For the money, I am more than satisfied.

Just had to comment, hope I didn't "Jack" the thread.

Thanks,
Gibby

Have a pentagon elite 2, carried it EDC for about a year. I like it, but it's a shape that you kinda have to need for it to be useful, if that makes sense. to be sure, it opens nice, locks very tight, and I didn't have any problems with it, and if you are looking for a huge folder, thats one place I'd look. the VG-10 should be better than the AUS-8, but even the 8 is really good. as far as the scales, they are big, and I have small hands so it wasn't the best for lots of work, but good with gloves.

if you are looking for a big folder, they are both good choices.

I have both these folders. Although the "shark tooth" tip on the Pentagon 11 is a unique idea, I personally would prefer a dagger point like on the fixed blade Pentagon which I also have. The fixed blade Pentagon ,if I may digress for a moment, was redesigned just a while ago and is now, IMO, a better looking and stronger dagger than the old version. I wish SOG had stuck with a kydex sheath though, the new Molle compatible sheath is of dubious use, I think, for civilian carry.
I think my Spec-elite 11 is a great looking knife and SOG is to be commended for offering these two affordably priced large folders. The only other company offering really large folders at a reasonable cost is Cold Steel , as far as I know.
To digress once again, I'm also looking forward to the new Tsunami, which also utilizes the pentagon handle shape. Just wish it was offered in a smaller size as well, like the old Tsunami.
One last point; I think the new 'swedge' fixed blades look very interesting and I'm buying one as soon as my local knife store gets them in.

I have Spec-Elite II that I carry everywhere with me. To be honest I really do love this knife, in fact its in my pocket right now. I have the AUS-8 version and it holds a wicked edge.
As much as I really love this knife, I do have one very big problem with it. Either the liners are too thin or the handle material (Zytel, I think) is too flimsy. If I grip the handle in my hand with emphasis (Like if I need to use it in a defense situation), I can feel the material flex in my hand. This is NO GOOD. IMO, I think SOG really ought to fix this ASAP with some G-10. If they did, they would have a perfect 10 in my book. To me, it seems silly to build such an awesome big-folder, and then just slap on some flimsy handles that should only be on a 2in. folder. They need to be thick and strong!

Just wanted to add, that I've had my Spec-Elite II for about 2 years now, and it still preforms well.

I think that the handles are plenty strong enough, I think the flex actually helps, if you put G-10, you'd probably need heavier liners, and a big knife would get bigger. YMMV

+ 1 on the handles......they feel cheap and flimsy........

Maybe if they just added a spacer to the back of the handle it would give less.
