I'd appreciate it if any of you who own the Camelbak Rim Runner would share the experience of using one? How good of a pack is it? How much gear can it store? If the bladder is full, will it still take 32 oz. bottles on the side? I'm still in my quest to find my first Camelbak bag and this one caught my eye at REI. What do you use yours for?

Thanks!

I have one and really like it. When we hike my wife does not carry a pack so I use the reservoir and carry a water bottle for her in the side pockets. I can't give you much on how much it can carry as we only do short day hikes. I think it is a comfortable pack and would recommend it. Lots of options for organizing your gear.

I have an older model (the first issued I believe) that I've carried both on short hikes around my local state park, and longer ones like Yosemite and my day pack in Europe. My only complaint is that the straps sometimes cut into my shoulders, but again, it's an older model, so that could be part of it. Other than that, it holds plenty for me (H2O bladder plus bottles on sides. I usually pack a fleece jacket, xtra socks, food, emergency kit etc, with some space to spare. I got mine on epray, so check around. Good huntin'!

I picked up one last year and it is now my all-time favorite day pack. Holds plenty of water, with room for a full survival/essentials kit plus food, extra jacket, camera, etc. The side straps easily alow you to tighten up the pack for smaller loads, and the suspension system is very comfortable. I never stuck any water bottles in the side pockets, but the tall thin bottled water type may fit. I am not so sure about a fatter, nalgene style bottles.

It seems plenty sturdy, too, and I expect this pack may well outlast me at this point. :D

I have this bag and love it. I bought it after I helped my buddy pick it out as his day bag and school bag. Then I promptly went out and bough one. My friend Krys was with me and loved it so much that she bough one for her husband. This is my go to woods, hiking, day, bouldering, book, overnight at a friends house bag. I love this thing it will hold a good amount of gear more then enough for a long day including a first aid kit, survival kit, rain coat, a light fleece, lunch and other odds and ends. That is my usual load out for a long day hike. It comes with a 100 oz bladder and I have loaded up the entire pack and bladder and put two water bottles in the pockets. This really is a great pack. One of the other great things is the sternum strap. This strap has a built in elastic section so that you get much more freedom of movement when scrambling around off trail or climbing trees or rocks or whatever. Also the buckle for the sternum strap has a built in whistle so you are never without one.

I have a couple of less then desirable features. First off the hip belt isnt that great and it comes off. This is great if you are carrying a belt knife or use the belt to keep the pack from moving around to much, but if you want to use it to take some weight it just wont cut it. This is not a big deal for me since I usually try and run as light as possible. Also I really like a top loading pack, but that is just a personal preference. Oh and even if I get another day pack that is top loading this pack is going nowhere. Also I wish that there was more organizational capabilities, but this is an issue that I have with all packs, the Rim Runner has the normal amount of pockets and such. Also there is a fleece lined electronics/sunglasses pocket at the top which works great for an iPod or sunglasses, imagine that huh. the issue with this is that it does not have a water tight zipper on this pocket so I have had water get inside the pack. This was only on a very long and wet day but still something to consider.

All in all I love this pack and would highly recommend it to anybody. Let me know if you have any more specific questions or want to see any pictures of mine, I don't have my camera handy right now.
