Hey guys, for future reference, who has access to white birch or paper birch bark?

Joe

I do in smaller amounts. There's a few nice big white birches that I go peel bark from occasionally. I could probably fill a small flat rate box for you if that's enough??

Email me through my profile with your shipping info Joe, and I'll have some on it's way from up here within a day or two.

No white birch down this way but we do have lots of river birch which also has paper bark. Works great for tinder but no idea on the pitch/glue stuff I've seen made from white birch bark.

Ive got a bunch in my woodpile from the Halloween storm. That wet snow laid em down without breaking them and they never stood back up. Some of them bent over 90% without breaking. Had to cut em down.--KV

Sorry, I'm not in the north anymore. Job relocation....I peeled it off a few times for practice. I always thought that it would make a hell of a sign to write on.

It's a common species here in the boreal forest. The log haul truck brings it to my home by the 10 cord load for my wood furnace. I buck it up and split it for two years prior to burning it. The bark is good for making fires and there's a ton of things that can be done with it, some old buildings used birch bark as shingles for the roof. They last longer than regular tar shingles, but burn like hell with just a spark.

I stock up on little squares once a year when up north. Got a bunch today from freshly fallen trees.

Yup, plenty of European white and silver birch here.
Don't know if you bother about the location, but I'm always in for an experiment.

I just did a paper birch bowl class. The dang sheets cost $7 a pop...for dead ones! Wouldn't mind trading someone obsidian for some

Joe,

I assume you couldnt do that with the abundant river birch we have here in NC?
