of all the knives I've bought, my Spyderco Perrin has been the best $100 I've spent on a knife. My primary testing ground was when I pulled up about 3,000 sq. ft. of carpet that had been in the house since 1976. To be blunt, it held it's edge longer than any of my other Benchmades, Emersons, REKATs. etc. And it's the only knife out of the bunch that didn't wind up with at least a couple chips in the blade from hitting nails and staples. At one point I managed to smack the soft inner part of the handle with a pry bar and but a big gouge in it, but after a day or two it pretty much resealed itself. Now I usually forget that it's there.
I also abused it pretty badly in prying up some nails and such on trim, and the VG-10 blade was actually much stronger than I had any reason to expect.
Since then I carry it as often as possible, and have used it to to everything from picking at my fingernails and opening mail, to splitting up kindling, whitting, etc. It is an EXTREMELY well designed, well made knife and easily the most versatile I've owned (SAKs and multi tools excluded)
If I were to sell all my knives I currently own that one would be the one I'd hang onto.
