Waited a week for my Am Lawman. Store called today, said they only have the lined ones and not the 2010 ones, *#@^

Is there a different item number for the 2010's, so I can be sure of what I am getting?

The model # on the box I have says "#58AL". Just got it a couple months ago.

Yep and you can check out the model number on the cold steel web site for the exact sku.

Funny you have brought this up, I have made 2 orders from 2 different dealers for the unlined version but both have sent me full steel lined versions??, quite annoying considering I sent emails asking them to check which ones they had in stock before I ordered!

I have now made an order on the bay but said I would only buy if he physically checked what one he had in stock, which he was fine with and responded promptly.

BTW the steel lined version has stock no #58AL on the ones I have received.

Did any of you guys happen to order from Knifeworks or Knifecenter? Just wondering because I want to order a few of the new Lawman folders in the near future as well.

I got my 1st one from Knifeworks about a month ago which was steel lined, but you never know when they will get new stock in.

Why not just shoot Roger at knifeworks an email - I'm sure he'll take care of ya!

I got mine on Amazon and it was not steel lined. I am assuming based on this discussion that the steel lined is inferior...which I cant believe but anything is possible.

No doubts he would have, KW is great, it was easier and quicker for me to sell it here in Australia.

I don't think any one would say it was inferior but if you want to save an oz in weight then it is considered a compromise.:)

I'd be curious to handle the unlined version but I'm quite happy with my lined version and the extra 1 oz.

the number is the same on the old and new, 58AL.

knifeworks has the lined version still?

gotta go make a call....

I got mine a couple days ago from KnifeWorks. It is a lined version - (I didnt know there were two versions out there so didnt specify). Havent decided if I will return it or not. I'd like to see if there are any differences between the two versions besides just having a liner. - - It looks like a very solid knife. I might reprofile the edge some to a more acute angle, though. Maybe I'm spoiled by Spyderco when it comes to factory edges.

Cold Steels first production of the AL all had steel liners, from 2010 all AL have been produced without liners. The other main differences are the unlined models have a larger radius on the edges and are approx. 1 oz less in weight and I believe they are slightly thinner(don't quote me on that) other than that they are very similar.

I'd much prefer a lined model?? Triad plus SS lined g-10 it's got it all. MORIMOTOM is all over one of those. I wonder if he ordered one?

I bought a new Recon 1 and the only way I could get a liner was to buy new "old stock" with the dang ultra-lock which never turned me on after owning so many silky smooth BM axis locks.

After watching ankerson's hard use video and corresponding with him - he assured me the new Recon 1 was tough as nails.

i actually was able to pick one up a few months ago. but may try and grab a couple extras.

having both the lined and unlined versions, i prefer the lined version. i think improvements were made to the lock interface. one result is part of the tang visible on the older model is no longer visible, so the blades are not interchangeable from new to old.

the choil is a hair larger on the old model, which for me means i can choke up without fear of getting cut. i also prefer the thicker grip and the ability to attach both clips.

Thanks - - well, that's interesting. I definitely don't want a more obtuse , larger radius edge angle. I haven't owned a CS for many years, so will be interested to see how this knife performs. - - When I get the chance, I'll have to pull out the Edge Pro and do a little reprofile work.

He is talking about the handle edge. A knife blade edge doesn't have a radius.

For those of you having issues when ordering from places online, be sure to check around if they physically have the knife in stock or if they are drop shipping to you. I used to drop ship what I didn't carry in house and stuff like this would happen. The warehouse will get rid of the older stuff before the new is shipped out. You and I know the difference but the supplier does not, it's only money to them.

Newgram, 1SKS, and other dealers here on bladeforums carry their items in house just for your 43.

I have carried, used and abused my CS American lawman (with steel liners thank you very much) and it is a real champ at taking beatings and coming out triumphant. The edge holding is good enough and if any of my knives get a good workout I sharpen them up at the end of the day anyways so the AUS 8 steel works. The grip is excellent and fits like a glove.

Yeah sorry I should have been clearer, as FlaMtnBkr said I meant that the handles edges are slightly more rounded, not a big deal, just another one of the small changes they made to the 2010 model. :)
