I will soon have my Nessmuk trio. I already have my Fiddleback Nessmuk and Wetterlings hatchet, waiting on my Trad. Forum 2010 Moose.

I have my two one-blade, smaller go-to knives - an RC-3 and a Fiddleback Runt (great for general low impact woodsbumming).

Now I want a nice big one blade, go-to knife, and I want a leuku. For camping when I don't want to deal with too much kit, or for hiking when I feel that the RC-3 isn't enough. Fact is, I feel the RC-3 will always be enough (rationally), but sometimes, you just need to carry a big knife, and I want that big knife to be a leuku.

Who has 'em (show pictures)? And what's easily available in the U.S.?

I have one, and it is in a Puuko/leuko combo. It is a paduk handled Koyote and it is great. 3/32" (I believe L6) 10 3/4" long blade, very light, fast and comfortable. It was very quick into my hands (although after TK magazine and his move I can't give you a time line), and affordable. Other than this I have lusted after Ragweed Forge but have never put in an order with him.

Here is a pic I have handy:

Good luck finding what you are looking for!

Edit: I used it all afternoon to help scrape out a handle (osage) for my hewing axe and it worked great! I have to round a couple of edges now that I have to keep girl hands but it is still seemingly as sharp as when I started.

Mine is made from a Lauri blank which is available for around $25. The blade is 7 inches long.

Black hills has made some awesome scandis.
One day I'll have Christof make me this beaut, a blade fit for Odin himself!

I guess this is considered a leuku at a minimum 5 inch length.

9" Stromeng blade with my own handle.
Not much of a wood carver but a heck of a camp knife.

PayetteRucker, let me first say that's a nice sketch.

But Im assuming you think there's a connection between Leukus and Odin. There isn't really. The Lapp/Saame people who's edged tool heritage the Leuku is, were shamanistic. Odin was a one of the germanic-scandinavian pagan figures worshipped by the north european people, most know vikings for doing this. But the Lapp people had much less to do with this worship even though there must have been some that did. However the lapp people had their own much older transAsian based animistic thing going on and the following beliefs were founded on Christian belief that overtook it as main religion. I certainly don't mean to take anything from your fine design but just thought you would like to know.

Hmmm, is there a minimum to a Leuku size?

What is it called if it's 3-4" long but still Leuku shaped and ground?

I have a Stromeng KS9. It is a lightweight and serious tool. I have beaten the hell out of it. Though it isn't a fulltang, it is still in great shape with no damage at all! These knives take a lot of abuse and one of their models is standard issue for norwegian SF (the KSF8). Here's their hp: http://www.samekniv.no/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=49&Itemid=64 Those arent neat toys, they are hard users...

I don't know if they are available in the US.

How do you get one of those BUSSTR's?

I really like this one. Koyote really makes a tough looking blade.

Well, it's about .1 inches thick... it wasn't built to be tough (it is) but it's the highest performance slicer I've ever held, and by far the best edge retention (Christof is a genius with 15N20 and that scandi grind). I haven't touched the edge of mine yet, since last August or September... it's still hair splitting.

I have the same one. Chopped a lot of frozen wood with it to build a shelter last year. Tough knife!

9" forge finish stromeng. (KS9OF)
Ragweed forge used to carry it, now the largest he has on hand is the 8" (pictured)
