Who has made the jump to simply turning off the television? What do you think?

Give me your impressions - I am really contemplating it.

i want to get rid of my tv. now that i have the little guy all i watch is baby eisnstein dvds and the occasional cubs game.

I have a T.V. at home with probaly all the channels, BUT wife has been pissing me off lately so I will probaly get rid of the cable. :) AND try not to smash the T.V. :)

No TV here. Haven't had one for years. I have never missed it. Occasionally, I hear about a good program, and sometimes I check these out online, but I have no nightly TV regimen.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a great way to reduce the amount of down time in your life.

But that's just me. Your mileage may vary.

All the best,

- Mike

Rabbit ears, just so I can catch the local news - that may change, though, when all signals go digital (or whatever).

I have Dish network at home and enjoy all the good stuff like history, discovery, military etc.

However, out at the cabin there are only two fuzzy channels coming in via bunny ears. Most of the time I just watch old shows from way back, and alot of stuff made on the camcorder over the years.

The camcorder if used properly and regularly produces a living diary. Many memories, and they are great to watch late at night while the generator purrs and the wood stove radiates, while the snow or rain is coming down.

You won't miss it. I haven't had one at all in my adult life. If you need a little mindless relaxation, you look at knives on BFC.

Other than mindless relaxation, what is a tv for?

I dabble with the thought of ditching the TV pretty regularly. There are still a few shows that I really enjoy, but overall, I've been watching TV less and less. I enjoy reading a lot more than watching TV nowadays. I have a 50" plasma with Hi-def digital cable, and it's a pretty awesome rig, so far as TVs go. The on-demand video and DVR makes it pretty easy to find something worth watching. There is good stuff to watch on TV if you know what to look for. I work at home at night, and usually have the Military or History channel going as background noise.

Just sitting and watching TV if you're not doing something else is a horrible waste of time. But I must confess to enjoying some of the shows HBO puts out. The last couple of episodes of "True Blood" have been almost freakishly amazing.

We have a tv, but no cable or even local stations. We very occasionally use it to watch a dvd. Probably half my friends do not watch tv, and they seem to lead fuller and more interesting lives. I don't think not having a tv makes them more active and interested, as much as their full lives leave no time for a tv.

I was in college for 5 years and never watched any TV except in summer and on holidays when I went home.

I listen mostly to public radio and what TV I do watch (about 4 hours a week) is public.

Unfortunately their tower is down so no public tv for the last 2 months.

Now the INTERNET would be harder for me to give up.

I started watching less and less television when I started college 3 years ago. It wasn't a conscious decision, I couldn't afford to bring a TV down to school, and I found better things to do (eg. BF).

Recently, like Moonwilson said, I've been sticking to a few HBO/Showtime series like True Blood and Weeds, and I only watch those on my computer even though my roommate has a 42" flat screen in the other room . . .

I've got a TV, but no cable. My girlfriend probably average about three movie rentals per week. That has gone up a bit lately, since I'm on vacation. I'm working my way through the True Blood series one DVD at a time.

We spend a lot more time doing things like making pottery at the studio, or playing board games. We also have guests over about once a week, sometimes more often.

I often find myself at a loss when people talk about the things they watch on TV. I missed some things, like Battlestar Galactica, but otherwise, I feel at peace.

I haven't owned a TV for over 10 years, haven't missed it. I live on a boat...in a marina, there is a lounge w/ a TV...some boaters have flatscreen TVs, sat reception. I have A.M. radio... I miss the Phil Hendry show :)

we got 4 chanels locally , I have no digital tv capability and no cable . there is a dish on the roof from the previous owners , that has never been conected in the ten years we owned this place .

Out of the 4 we have , usually we can onlypick up 2 , the kids seem to enjoy the challenge of playing with the rabbit ears till the reception comes good , then they lose intrest and go do something else .

I wouldnt ditch it tho , the news is at times worth watching .

apart from evening for seeing the news n weather broadcast , not much worth while watching really ... days of our lives , cops , bold and beautiful .... yar right :P

I havent watched tv for almost five years. Its hypnosis, electronic heroin, and mind control...period. It was invented only to control the masses. Sheeple dress like the tube, act like the tube, raise their kids like the tube, and make life decisions based on the tube. The tube is only safe for those who are more powerful than it (not many in the u.s. society).

It,s GREAT to see sooooo many who DON,T watch TV !!!

My wife an i still have a TV but we turned the cable off about 3 yrs ago.We might rent a movie 2 or 3 times a year, other than that it gets no use.

We don,t miss it at all. We both like to read and i have my knifemaking hobby for entertainment, as well as the net.

No cable, only have like 6 channels. Like 4 of them are news. I almost never watch tv, except for occasional football or baseball game. :D
