Who has or will buy the MT LCC MA and for what reasons?

Also your thoughts on the following:

1) Will the LCC replace your current everyday carry or do you think it is too big and heavy?

2) Which blade will you buy, stonewashed, bead blasted or black and why?

3) Comments you care to add for everyone to think about when deciding whether or not to purchase the LCC and for what purpose.

Thanks in advance for all your thoughts

I bought mine because of all the rave reviews and because Gary Graley recommended it and he knows his knives. I bought a stonewash blade since it hides all those little annoying scratches and from owning a Sebenza and using it pretty regularly I know stonewash is the best finish for a working knife.

Is it too heavy? I love a hefty knife so my answer is no. Do I like the blade shape? The jury is still out on the utilitarian nature of the blade but it definitely is a close combat fighter hence the name LCC (Lightfoot). Will it be my daily carry? It will be this week!

Bottom line is the knife is extremely well made. It is rugged, fit and finish are incredible for a $125 knife. The ti liners and bolsters and carbon fiber handle are usually seen on upper end customs. This knife has to be the best buy of the year.

I can't really comment on the cutting ability of the blade shape since I have not put the knife through all the motions yet since I just got it on Friday.....but one thing I can say for sure is....it is built like a high end custom. Reminds me of a Carson knife.

Welcome to the fourms Starchaser.

I have an LCC MA on order from One Stop Knife Shop.

1) It'll probably be too big and heavy for me to carry while at work, but on the weekends it's probably going to replace my BM 730 (on weekdays the only blade on my person is one of those small Victorinox keychain knives).

2) I bought the stonewashed so it will hide small scratches and will resist rust more easily than the bead blast finish.

3) It'll be my first Microtech so I'm looking forward to finding out whether fit and finish is as high as people say. Also because of the styling, CF scales, Ti bolsters, etc.

Thanks Greg for welcoming me to the forums. This is a great place, I just found it a few days ago. I have been reading through the post for a little while before I posted anything myself and everyone is really nice. The best part since I am kind of new to all this, is that I have learned a lot and found a tremendous amount of information just by reading the post on the forum from all the knowledgeable people here.

I like everything I have read and heard about the LCC but I am concerned it might be too big and heavy to use as an every day carry for general use. I am trying to decide whether or not something like BM 940 or 705 might be better for me since I tend to lean towards smaller lighter knives.

I do like the price though considering everything you and others have said about it being like an expensive custom and what you are getting compared to other knives near the same price point. As you said being the best buy of the year make it seem hard to pass up even if I didn't carry it all the time. Of course then I would have to buy another knife for every day carry and I can only buy one right now. My dilemma

BTW where did you purchase your LCC for $125?

I too just ordered an Stonewash LCC from 1SKS. FRom all that I have seen, it is simply the best bang for the buck out there today. It could pass for a knife at least twice the price. It will also be my first Microtech. Their reputation for quality as well as Greg Lightfoots' design also played a part in my decision.

Dollar for dollar, i think the LCC MA represents the best value for money in a tactical folder. If you didn't know it, you'd think it was a full blown custom from the way it opens, locks and feels. About the only thing i don't like is the rather hefty weight. But i'm sure i'll get used to it when I get mine

Check out Greg's custom LCC for a true slice of knife nirvana. Its basically a smaller, handier LCC: http://www.lightfootknives.com/lcc.html
Its been invading my dreams ever since I saw it. Been buying lottery tickets...

Buy the LCC, and you won't be dissapointed. The knife is big, but I carry mine always and you don't even know it's there. There is no way you could get this quality of knife anywhere else for twice the money. I have about 2 dozen Microtechs, and their quality is as great as everyone says.

Basically, I agree with everything Kodiak said. Also, this knife is NOT too big. In fact, I compared it to my SpeedTech Synergy and there's not too much of a difference. The LCC is built like a tank and has become my daily carry knife; this knife is about as close to custom as you can get. For under $150 this knife can't be beat! Oh yeah, and it's very cool looking! I can't wait for my DA to arrive.

I got mine from Chief at Chief's Cutlery. A great guy to do business with.

Well, I just bought mine (from ProEdge!) at the CKG show in Toronto this past weekend. At one point I had the LCC in my left hand, and an actual Lightfoot (458 Magnum with Millenium double grind) in my right. The custom was a wee bit thinner and lighter, and had shinier bolsters. And that's about it. If the LCC didn't say "Microtech" on the blade, I would have simply assumed that it was also a Lightfoot original. It really is that good. This is the coolest folder in my collection.

As for the reason? Well, I am a certified knife nut, but I guess that is to be assumed here... Basically, I've always loved Greg's customs, but am not quite independently wealthy enough to justify one at the moment.

I got the stonewash finish so that if and when I start hacking things up with it it will still stay good-looking. Black blades just flat-out suck, and bead-blast is tough to clean up and really show scratches. The stonewash finish is not as funny looking as the photos indicate.

Just buy it. There is nothing better in terms of quality and materials in the production market in this price range. I just can't wait to see how makers like Benchmade respond to this "raising of the bar" in terms of pricing, fit, finish, and materials. This can only be a good thing for us!

Hi SC,
I got mine through this forum from my friend Big Tex (he was selling his)for $120. You can buy a LCC from numerous net dealers here. Another source is Roger at Bayou Laforche.

The 705 is a great knife if you are looking for a smaller folder with a drop point (more traditional) blade design. The Axis lock is fabulous. I have a BM 720, too and am quite impressed with that knife, also.

Good luck with your decision. Let us know what you decide.

Regards,

Greg

When I ordered the LCC I intended it to be my new daily carry, which it has become. I ordered the stonewash finish, because I wanted something a little bit different. When I received the knife, I wasn't sure I liked the look of the stonewash finish (it has grown on me a little), but other than that I really like just about everything else about the knife. It is a very solid feeling knife, heavier than I was expecting when I first got it. It is also a tip up carry knife, the first tip up carry I've used on a regular basis, and I like it alot. It doesn't look like a big knife when it is in your pocket, the pocket clip is short, and not much of the handle shows above the lip of your pocket. I am a little leary about using it at work, or in front of sheeple, because it is a fairly large knife. I may have to get a smaller gentlemens folder to carry as well, for those times when pulling out a large folder may not seem appropriate.

1. I am not sure that it will replace my everyday knife, but I ordered it with that intention.

2. I bought the stonewashed blade because it will show the least amount of wear (at least thats what they told me @ 1SKS).

3. This is the first knife I have bought based on mass hysteria. I have never heard more positive things about a production folder since I have been on forums.

Ordered an LCC from Chai which was shipped about 2 days before James went home.

Bought it based on the great reviews on the forum. I get to have it on Thursday for my birthday and plan to carry it daily alternating with my BM 720. For workdays around the house or whatever, I've got a Buck Strider I'm testing out.

For the money, the LCC is a great knife, good all around design and well made. Highly recommend.

I bought the LCC because it was a Microtech which had a rep for very high quality. Frankly I have bought a few knives (not MT) that didn't meet my expectations on fit and finish. That said, I was and am very pleased with the quality of this knife even more so with the value (price is incredible for this knife). As far as size, I like big knives, but you know what...it doesn't "carry" like a big knife. The pouch is nice, it rides high, easily concealed under an untucked garment. The clip is set up for tip up, which is pretty quick. As for the finish, I chose bead blast. Yes it will scratch, but not that much because I chose it for "backup" purposes
wink.gif
, not utility. The beadblast is flat grey, not flashy, very "stealthy". I always have my BM 750 on me (always), and a little buck stockman for cutting chores.

#0812 is clipped to my pocket right now, plain edge stonewashed.Heard so many good things so I went for my first MT.Not to heavy for me,I really like the feel of the weight.Right now its my carry for everywhere but work(my work knives can get lost or abused at a much higher rate).I'm pleased with everything about this knife,I mean how many times have you got the perfect knife except for one thing? You know the clips at the wrong end the tips to thick or thin ect. the LCC has it all for me!Like it
biggrin.gif

Kodiak....sorry for the bad influence on you
biggrin.gif

But I also picked up a manual LCC, like the rest the hype/promotion frenzy on the forums certainly made this one that I just had to see and since there are no knife stores anywhere near where I live, no wonder my wife likes it here?
wink.gif
I picked mine up through Jppop on the forums, a black bladed plain edged one....

Now I did have it up forsale for a brief time, but I had put some kind of lubricating stuff on the knife and made the black look more greyish and so I couldn't sell it that way....guess what, a few days later I took the knife to my sharpening stones and the oil cleaned off that grey matter and now it looks like new again, and I was very impressed at the edge it took, it was already sharp but I can never leave well enough alone. Since then I've carried it in my front pocket and there she will stay.

The clip....I think I'll remove it and sand a little relief at the bottom opening so it doesn't keep acting like a draw knife on my pants pockets, it just seems to scrape the material away, so if I take a jewelers file and file a slight ramp on the inside of that first opening it should do the trick...I carry other knives on my belt and leave this one clipped to the pocket.

Good strong knife, highly recommend it to everyone...but the stonewashed might be better for most folks.

I just got mine last week and it has secured a place in my waistband as my daily carry. Kellster is right, it doesn't carry like a big knife at all. I actually think it's a quite attractive looking knife and don't think it has the "scare" factor like many of tody's folders. The titanium bolsters make it more "classy." I think many people would react more negatively to my Speedtech Synergy or BM 710 then to my MT LCC.

Wow, everyone has nothing but high praise for the LCC MA and with good reason it seems. Not one negative comment...how could anyone resist buying such a winner?

Narruc-great customizing!! I especially dig the engine-turned bolsters. Nice touch.
smile.gif

I bought the LCC because of the reviews here and at Microholics. Having a few Microtechs, my opinion is that they make the finest production knives on the market (I exclude Chris Reeve from this category and put him in the hazy, cloudy "semi-custom" category...). After reading the reviews by Gary Graley, Chief, and others over at Microholics I knew MT had come up with a real winner. I had been looking for a "hard-use" folder for daily carry to supplement my small sebenza.
I got the stonewashed blade, then promptly dissassembled it and hand polished it up to 1000 grit. Looks pretty good, but I'm not done yet.
It is fairly large for a folder, and it's not a lightweight (it's a LightFOOT!
wink.gif
) but as mentioned above it does carry well in-pocket and also comes with a pretty decent sheath for belt carry. I highly recommend it.
