Who has the best prices on knife steel?

njsteelbaron.com

Although I'm not a professional knifemaker by any means, I have played with making a few of my own fixed blades. Have put in multiple orders with them from D2 to 3V to S35vn, not necessarily always the cheapest but usually always have a good selection, and no minimum order.

Baron has some decent prices for what they sell, but they absolutely kill me on the shipping. Last time I needed a couple of pieces of steel, I went to calculate the shipping and it literally doubled the price of my order. Because of that, I only order from them if I need a specific larger sized piece, or I'm ordering a larger quantity.

Lately, I've been getting the majority of my steel from Alpha Knife supply. They don't typically deal in more than 2ft lengths or so, but their shipping price is about half of what you'll pay from NJSB for a similar length and size.

Either place is great at the end of the day though... I just wish NJSB would negotiate that FedEx contract down a little bit. ;)

I didn't even remember that lol, probably been 4 months since I ordered from them. Still wishing a decent steel shop would open locally to me. Got a few, but most don't carry any nicer stainless or any high speed steels. Only stuff like 316, A2 and O1 🤷‍♂️

I just get 24" bars from NJSB, saves a lot on shipping! Pops has good prices and Jantz has a steel flat rate for shipping, too.
