I asked in Wilderness +Survival and all I got was reply to come here so-
Does anyone here use the Uluchet? - http://home.silverstar.com/turnermfg/
These have some write up on BF from a few years ago, I am intriged but I want to hear more recent experiences ...........
Like how well does it chop Vs. Gransfor Bruk mini or backpacker hatchet?
The zytel handels, how do they hold up long term ?
Thank you
Martin

I have an Uluchet. The chopping ability is not as good as a small hatchet but the leverage is less since the handle is not as long. If you need a blade for close work the uluchet does better than a hatchet, at least the ones I have. It will cut tent stakes, small limbs, saplings well. The zytel handles wiggle a little but seem stout enough when I chop, including batoning walnut and oak. IMHO, if you want a game dressing tool that you can use for some woodcraft, this is a great tool. If vice versa, get a hatchet. HOWEVER, I am looking at the Roselli axe, see www.roselli.fi

Thanks for replying, I am interested woodworking not hunting- I guess it is unrealistic to expect higher chopping performance from tool this small. Still it is very interesting designbut Gransfor Bruk maybe is still better optione .
The Roselli looks like very nice for woodwork, however it is a little to big for hatchet for me!
Thank you
Martin
