Anyone here only by domestic blades? Or perhaps will not by blades
made from a specific country(s)?

Any reason why?

Personally I prefer domestic, but I will buy from other countries (China)
if there is a big enough price differential but not too much loss in quality
(Read: Spyderco Tenacious).

I'd like to buy more American, but unfortunately most designs I like happen to be made in other countries.

I have a great preference for countries with basic human rights, and among those, I tend to prefer America.

This therefore excludes many countries.

Generally, I find American made knives are cheaper than the knives of its competitors any way (at similar quality). Kershaw's Storm and Skyline don't get nearly the press they deserve, but at 30 dollars, they're quite the American made bargain.

I don't care much where the knive is made, except when it's say .. North-Korea, Zimbabwe or Iran, but as far as I know, they don't produce quality knives anyway.

Most of my knives are European, American (mostly choppers from Busse, Fehrman and Swamp rat) and Japanese.

I don't only buy American knives because I'm not American lol, but I don't buy Australian blades either because there are no good knife companies here putting out quality blades for a good price, I buy what ever knives I like that are affordable to me.

I try to restrict my knife-buying to communist countries like Nepal, China, and Russia, to support the workers of the world (proletarii vsyekh stran).

At least mongomondo gets it. :D

Frankly, setting national limits is OK if that's what you want to do, but be very careful how you say that here. Bladeforums is a knife discussion website. We have a Political Arena in which we quarantine opinions about other nations.

You cannot even distinguish among countries by quality, since other countries have factories that will supply the level of quality our markets require.

Spyderco has preempted the quality control question by labeling their blades with Earth on them.

I know this plays on our emotions as humans BUT we have to be loyal to our species!

That's just plain wrong. I love knives. Couldn't get through a day without the usage of one. However, I will not purchase knives manufactured either whole or in part from countries whose policies I disagree with.

This discussion should probably be moved to Politics, since if most were to elaborate upon their decisions, it would violate the premise of the General forum area.

I draw the line at knives made from Uranus, they stink. :p

This discussion should probably not be moved to the Political Arena, since they do have rules for presentation of their topics which are harder to comply with in a thread started elsewhere.

The question is not new. It pops up periodically. It often leads to bigoted or otherwise ignorant statements. It rarely enlightens anyone here.

We aren't the only species on Planet Earth.
I draw the line at purchasing sharpened chimpanzee sticks.

There are some excellent custom makers here, and they don't all charge an arm and a leg. I have a few.

How about this, (including kydex sheath), for $AUS140

Looks like a good deal, and handsome to boot.

I avoid knives from other countries simply because my funds limit the amount of knives I can purchase.
In that same sense I also avoid knives with other qualities, such as tip down carry, high ride pocket clips, and liner locks.

I consider "Made in USA" a plus, and I would prefer to keep my hard earned money at home when I can.

While I do prefer American made knives, I have no problem buying knives made in friendly countries. Taiwan is still on our side last I checked and so is Japan.

My issue is buying knives from countries that wish to do harm to the US and it's allies. Not to mention those that have a poor track record with human rights violations and use forced labor in their government owned factories to make those knock off blades.

I know there are alot of awesome custom knife makers but I almost never use fixed blades for anything other than for cooking.

What THG said, I prefer Armerican, but I think it's alittle late for that. Gary

I only buy knives made in the US.

...well and Japan. Japan makes a good blade. Gotta love that Seki City stuff:thumbup: Just the US and Japan. That's all I'll buy....and Taiwan. You can get a lot of cutting for your buck from Taiwan. So the US, Japan, and Taiwan. You won't catch another country's knife in MY house....er, and some Chinese if the price and quality are right. Come to think of it, I do have a couple of these funny bent blades from Nepal sitting around somewhere;)

I can totally understand why some folks would go for national pride in selecting their knives. Buck, Kershaw, Spyderco, etc all make more than enough knife for your needs. If that's what you want, vote with your dollar:thumbup: I have more than my fair share of American brands.

However, we really mustn't lump ALL of the people making knives in other countries with national policies of said country. That would be like people from Europe not buying American because they disagreed with policies Bush or Obama. Not all of the folks making the knives voted for those two.
