If so, which one do you have and how has it helped you. What other uses do you use it for, such as MPH feature.

I have one (Magellan) on my pneumatic boat and I use it to find and hold my route and to check speed and covered miles.
Sailing comes easier with a GPS on your boat!

I have a standard Garmin Etrex. I use it when hiking by logging the location of my vehicle into memory so that if I get lost I can guide my way back to safety. And if I come across anything super interesting while out-n-about I log that in too (i.e. petroglyphs, hot springs, caves, etc.) I also use it for wild harvesting by recording things like chokecherry thickets, morel mushroom patches, camas fields, etc.

I have also gone into places I had never been before by looking up the longitude, latitude & elevation of a place on a map, punching it into the GPS, and it guided me right into where I wanted to go. Excellent for when you see a good campsite on a topo map but you're just not sure if you can self-guide yourself to that exact spot.

I have a Magellan 4000xl, which is kind of old but still works fine.
Used to be my Dad's, he would use it to spot fishing holes on a lake.

I use it for a variety of things:
Logging my car / spike camp location
Setting waypoints for a route through new country
Marking specific landmarks / rendezvous points

Most of my hunting/camping/hiking is done in thick, high timber... it's pretty hard to get lost, but the GPS sure saves time and effort. Like when dark is 30 minutes away, and you're not REALLY sure how far you trailed that elk, or over how many ridges....

Buddy of mine and I play a game: pick a section out of a topo map, he starts at one end and I start at the other. The trick is to see how close we can come to a designated meeting point. With the GPS, is you get confused, it's easy to straighten yourself out. Best way to use it, in my opinion, is to get a bearing on a known point and turn it off, using your compass to guide you.

I have a Garmin Etrex Venture. It has nice features, but I find the antenna to be severely lacking in strength. I don’t think I’d recommend an Etrex to others, just because of the antenna.

I record fishing and hunting spots, significant landmarks and trails. I also participate in Geocaching . A GPS is a great tool for finding your way back from an off-trail adventure, or for mapping a planned route. It’s no substitute for good compass skills, but has superior ease of use.
