Who here has an Alpha Hunter in Rosewood?

i have 2 fixed blades and one folder...in rosewood...but i also have 1 fixed blade walnut,1 fixed blade alaskan guide series,1 fixed blade with antler scales, 1 fixed blade rubber handle....along with a rosewood dorado and mini alpha.

i guess you could say i'm partial to fixed blade:) i'm a hunter,a fisherman, and an avid hiker and i havent had any one of these fail yet. most of the blades are ats34 or 154cm and i have actually tried to abuse my usual carry alpha to the point of breaking it....and..well i havent broken it yet, not even a chip:)

I have a folder in ATS-34.
(Had, and sold, fixed blades in rosewood/ATS-34 and walnut/420HC).

These are beautiful, well made knives that are available for great prices.
I just found that I wasn't using mine as often as I thought I would.

I wouldn't recommend the folder for bushcraft.
Just don't think the liner lock in it is sufficiently heavy-duty.

The fixed blade in my opinion is much more suited for bushcraft and similar activities than the folder, though it is also a hollow grind.
I consider it much more of a slicer than a chopper.

But, though I use it rarely, I like my Alpha Hunter folder way too much to ever consider selling it. :)

I like the Vanguard's more traditional 'feel', so a basic version (~$60) - or the Cabela's-only Alaskan Guide in S30V - were my first fixed blade 'bushcraft' knives. Now that I have been 'informed' (Checkout the 'Wilderness' sub-forum of the 'Tactical and Training' forums here - or the UK bushcraft.com forum.), or, more appropriately, 'enlightened', I am much poorer and have an assortment of nice bushcraft knives. I may just have been better off with the Vanguard.

I like the Vanguard for it's finger guard - and hand-fit. The fixed Alpha looks nice - and I hope to get one some day - but there is something reassuring about a finger guard with wet/cold conditions. Oh, sure a convex edge is better - now that I know. Boy, I sure could whittle with the hollow ground knives. Even a Buck 102 - or the 119 - can be a good bushcraft knife. I carried a 110 for years when I went woods stomping/hiking/camping. When I felt the need, I carried my late Dad's old WWII friend, a KaBar - what did I know?? Now I am enlightened, broke, and have this collection...

Buy what suits your needs - real first, perceived second.

I prefer fixed for hunting as well. But ever since I got the277 folder with rosewood and 154cm It's been my edc. I mean EVERY day. It hasnt left my side.

As a collector, I have Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw and Buck knives. What ends up being carried? Either a Buck 110 or my 277 Folding Alpha Hunter. The 277 has as smooth an action as any Benchmade and is a sturdy knife, with a heft to it that I like. The Rosewood scales fill my hand nicely for a solid grip and the massive frame inspires confidence. On the 277, you will find a liner lock, that as mentioned in an earlier post, appears too thin compared to the frame and I agree. However, through a lot of use and testing, where I deliberately tried to make the lock fail, I have been unable to get the lock to fail at all. As a result, I have complete confidence in the 277.

With it's Bos treated 154CM blade, shaving sharp edge and just plain good looks, the 277 is for me an ideal mix of form and function.

Rifon, If the Alpha Hunter isn't of sufficient stength for bush work, then there is not a folder made of sufficient strength. DM

I have a 276 gut hook folder and like it very much. It's a little on the large side for the small game that I occasionally use it on but that doesn't stop me. For the money it's a substantial, well made and good looking knife. I won't be letting it go in a hurry and it tempts me to get an Alpha Dorado sometime in the future.

Well Talfuchre... I really think the Alpha Hunter with rosewood
is you man.It will be just the tool you need for bush craft.

I don't have one , I do have a Rosie Dorado that a BBforever
sent me .I have a BP 110 with rosewood. They work great for me.

So if you are in to fixed and drop points.Go for it.

Happy Hunting
