Who here plays disc golf?

I played my first game of disc golf today. I've played a LOT of ultimate, but never gotten into this game. I just picked up a driver and hit a local course with a few more experienced friends. There are a lot of courses around my area so I'm looking forward to going again. Anybody else play?

I don't play, but the local park where I ride my bike has a course, and it's always well-attended. Quite popular, apparently.

I don't play myself either but I go to a lot of parks with my orienteering club and there are lots of courses in those parks with lots of people playing them. It looks like a lot of fun. Most players seem to be carrying around three or four disks - is that the standard equipment?

I only have 1 disc right now, but I'm getting a second today. A more experienced player (and most players I've seen) have a huge bag with about 20 discs, which seems like overkill to me. There are discs with different characteristics such as fading left or right, having good speed, hovering well, that sort of thing. I guess an experienced player might find the different attributes useful, but I don't want to spend a lot, nor do I want to carry a bag around.

I got a good all-around driver a few days ago and today I'm picking up a putter. I can't see myself going much beyond that.

Yeah, I play when I can, being in a college town we actually have a great course. I'm not really very good, but I do enjoy playing. I have a couple decent all around discs, 175's I think. I really like the glow drivers I picked up a couple years ago. If you charge 'em up you can play at dusk for about 2 hrs without recharing them. Pretty neat. I'm with you too Snow, can't see the need for a dozen or more disks, I have 4 and that's probably all I'll ever have. I recommend getting at least one decent all around disk, such as a Shark, plus the ones you already have. That way you've got all the bases covered.

Well today I got a driver and a long distance driver. The driver was in the bargain bin for $4 so I snagged it. I thought long and hard about an all-around disc called the Timber Wolf (I think), but I couldn't justify it. I mean, in what situation would I use an all-around disc when I have specific discs for both driving long range, medium range, and putting? If the all-around just does all of those, I don't know if I need one.

Also, after playing 36 holes today, I decided I need to work more on my throwing. Another disc won't make a difference when I can't control where it goes.
