I've never been to a knife show, although I've been to plenty of trade shows in the HiFi industry (my business). I've also been buying knives for more than two decades now and am wondering about the upcoming Knife Expo in Buena Park CA.

I'm a novice wannabe knifemaker and wondering if there is enough for a newbie like me to make it worth an overnight (Saturday) stay? I'd hate to spend the cash for an overnighter (could be knifemaking supply money) and end up just sitting in a Fairfield Inn for the evening and then just watching everyone pack up on Sunday.

I'm looking for some guidance fellas, how many folks will be there and is there a central social gathering place or meet and greet kind of thing?

...but if you're refering to 'Knife Expo 2002' in Buena Park on Feb 22-24, we'll be there.

Knife Expo show's in my vast experience, (been to two now...lol), are one of the better shows in my opinion...more like a gun show than a maker's show.

So, you'll have a few factory reps, a few makers, a few resellers, a few purveyors, items for display only, and 'parts' folks...

I think there were 100 some odd tables last year, with all knife related 'stuff'...i.e., no kewpie dolls...

Here's a link... http://www.scblades.com/Knifeexpo.htm

I really liked the show last year...touched bases with some friends, met some fellow forumites, bought some really nice knives at great prices, etc.

People? The place was packed...and money was changing hands, not like the last Blade West show... :p

AS far as 'hanging out in the inn' goes...if you have some contacts there, people you've met through here maybe; or if you're an instigator like I am, you should be able to wind up in the bar or in someone's room talking knives for half the night...

(What you do the other half the night is your business...lol Also, BYOB, just in case the 'party' ends up in your room...)

Hope that helps...see you there.
