Hello folks,

I was just wondering. I got the mail a weak ago, and I tought there would be a topic up by now. Guess not, so I'll do the honours.

Anyway, what do you think about?
Photopoint goes paysite, as does photoloft. That means that all expage owners will have either no pics or need to pay.
Sad isn't it?

They say they need the money because they offer much more then just a photostoring service. Well, bad luck, for me they are just photostoring. I like their efforts in making it more versatile and all, but I know a lot of guys that just need a place to store pic on-line.

For me, it's O.k. , I can have a 30Mb webspace place form the university here for free..

But it has to a pain in the ass for photopoint users..some even made rather memorable pages like Vampire Gerbil, Phil, lone wolf ...

Just wanna know if it will affect a lot of stuff here?

Greetz, bart.

Bart, it ain't no big deal it's $9.95 for the year. It's worth it just to save the time of moving my pictures. I can keep 1000 pics there, right now I only have about 290 in my albums. Besides I've put a lot of time into my PhotoPoint Movies, and I have no idea what to do with them?
I should do a website, but I'm just too lazy

I'm with Phil. I've enjoyed using PP and they have never given me any difficulties. As long as I continue to get the good service as I have been getting, that's all that matters.

I'll keep mine where they are (at PhotoPoint). For the price, at least I know that I won't have to move them when the company goes belly up because they tried to exist on internet ad revenue.

I just recently got a PP account, and am starting to have some fun with it. $9.95/year isn't going to break me, so I'm keeping it.

I would like to stay with pp, but i searched their registering form and it seems there is no way to pay without a creditcard *neither nor* from outside the US.

Yep, I've already paid up. I've enjoyed their service for quite a while, free, so I don't mind paying up if that's what it takes. If they get carried away with price increases in the future, I'll have to make other arrangements.Keep it reasonable, guys!

As Big Tex said, the "free" rides on the Internet are over. My website was originally with a "free hosting" site and they went belly up last month; just closed down. Considering all the work I did, I would have been very happy to have been offered a low-cost alternative from the same company. $9.95 A YEAR to host my photos? Sounds like a bargain to me! And I'm assuming that the people complaining about the $9.95 a year are NOT smokers.

I have a FREE account at www.photoclub.com . It's great! They don't have any ads on the pics you post, and plus they have an excellent "photo drop" feature which makes uploading very easy and less time-consuming. If you don't want to pay for Photopoint, you should check out Photoclub.com .

I haven't used them for very long, but they do provide a very valuable service to me. I was using Geocities/Yahoo, but the accessibility was crappy. Photopoint has reliable quick access via posted links that makes it worth it to me. I think I'll stick with them.

I paid. Ten dollars a year for 1000 pictures (no size limit) is a steal. I am constantly amazed that folks think the Free ride at many internet sites can continue forever, or that it should always be free. Gimme a break.

I also hope that the cash influx will help make Photopoint a little more stable and reliable than they have shown recently.

O.K. folks.. 10 $ isn't much and i would pay it.... if I could!

You see the belgian knives link below? when photoloft goes paysite, it's deemed to dissapear. Imagine how much work went in it and now, because I can't pay it, all pics will be gone ?

Well, seems to me that i will stay on PP too, but find a way to save money, too. i've been an ABS member since 4 years now and if i took the money it costs me, i could pay PP for 20 years. PP brought me some good customers, the ABS membership nothing but costs. So guess what i am gonna do?

Bart Student,
Maybe you could have someone from here on BFC pay for you and you could send them the cash or something?

The first knife was probably used to cut stuff.

Yeah I could..
1.if I do it by postal service, it most likely gets stolen before it gets here.
2. if I do it by bank, I need to pay 50 $ extra for translation costs and stuff.
3. in both cases i need to add 33% for taxes.
