"Up for auction is an Old Timer, Schrade Fixed Blade Knife. This knife is in good shape. It has a brown plastic handle. Though someone has inscribed something on the handle. I can make out, New, then it says something and then it reads 12/98. The blade reads, Schrade+USA, 70T. Where one would open the blade there is a hole in it, perfectly round. The tip of the blade has never been sharpened. This old timer knife is in good shape. We will be selling here on e-bay in the next several weeks; many knives from the Schrade Cutlery Company as we bought a large portion of there companies knives when they quit making their knives. These knives came from the bins, some are unfinished, some are prototypes never before released, a lot of them are one of a kind knives. With each knife you buy it will come with a copy of this certificate, "This is to certify that the following knife came from the archives of the Schrade Cutlery Co. that recently closed it doors after 100 years of continuous operation. All of the factory collection, prototype samples and archive materials were purchased by Smoky Mountain Knife Works and Blue Ridge Knives. Schrade knives have always been a hot collectible and will become even more sought after now that the doors are closed. The above mentioned knife is part of the inventory that I purchased from the above named companies. Signed, John M. Parker Sr."
Seller is Gilbert Cooper,Winchester,Ohio

I expect some of you fellers know John Parker.

Really, I don't know who John Parker Sr is. I just went through one of my Jim Parker collector books and although I see lots of his relatives named, I see no John. A honcho at SMKW or Blue Ridge?

BRLevine has some good things to say about certificates of authenticity that has to do with bathroom activities. Here is one I just got From James Parker after winning one of old "irbing's things. Of course BR has never seen the wonderful Certificate of Authenticity that came with the Schrade forum knife, as done by me and our own Irb. I mean Larry.
Did every one get one of these nice glossy ones that Larry made? Emnail me your address if you did not.

So who is John Parker Sr. anyway?

From an ebay seller's item description:

"FROM JOHN PARKERS COLLECTION, MR PARKER WAS THE CO-FOUNDER OF SMOKEY MOUNTAIN KNIFE WORKS AND ALSO IS THE BROTHER OF JIM PARKER FOUNDER OF PARKER KNIVES,"

Well, that makes my certificate more special I guess. I was thinking that maybe "Jim" and "John" might have been one and the same. An internet search did not turn up anything on John. And if Jim had signed and dated it (8-25-05) it would have been proof of communication from beyond. I suppose John sold these knives to dealers with a roll of presigned certs and it was up to them to fill in the description and date to the best of their ability. I'll watch ebay for an unused roll as Levine advises.:)

This is on the $mkw website...

Jim Parker was James F. Parker, I believe. John appears to be John M. Parker. So, the link just seconds what Phil found, it would seem.

As far as Certificates go...I'm quite sure those were printed long ago by Guttenberg...or Ben Franklin...or possibly somebody who knew P.T. Barnum. After all, the do have "Printer's Alley" right there in Nashville, Tah-Nah-See.
I think I'm gonna start collecting Certificates, instead of wasting my time on knives.

All those years...if only I'd have known. Sigh. :(

Phil,
You may want to pull that picture of the certificate before you see it copied in an eBay ad.
