I am only sure of the makers for two of my khukuris. My baby Ganga Ram was made by Bura, and my Gelbu Special was made by Sanu, if my memory serves me correctly. Both are wonderful, and if I was forced to choose between them, I don't know. I have been looking forward to getting something made by Kumar, as I am a little on the itsy bitsy side at 140 lbs. Sher is a little too much for me, as I find that HI khukuris are already overbuilt, even when made to specifications. This new kami Murali has caught my eye though. I'm crossing my fingers that he can make a Sherpa style khukuri, so I can get #3, after Uncle Bill, and then you I think.

Boy, Harry, that's a tough one.

For beauty, I'd have to say Bura for the silver mounted Gelbu Special I am privileged to own. (Though he didn't carve the wooden handle.)

For "feel in the hand" I'd have to say Prakash for my 16.5" WWII, and Sher for the 12" Sirupati. Each exceeds even the 18" Kumar Kobra in "feel" and I was impressed with that one when I got it.

Of course, I am looking forward to my forthcoming sirupati by Sanu, so all bets are off until then.

It is like asking who is the best of the best. Each has his own particular strengths and weaknesses.

But, if I had to make a choice of only one I would stick with Bura.
