Who knows about old British machetes? Need a history lesson real quick

Hey guys I'm looking for some help. My dad picked up a 1944 jjb British bolo knife at a yard sale for next to nothing. It's been in his basement for the past 15 years of so. I remember him saying he would want a custom knife made out of it. I went to go grab it without his knowledge to have it made into knives and then I started thinking about ruining a cool old piece of history. A quick google search turns up no results on history. Are these rare or worth anything? Any idea if the steel is worth making into a knife? I hate to ruin a piece of history...if it's a collector type thing. But again it's just been sitting there, I remember cutting the head off a snake with it about 10-12 years ago but thats the extent of its use.

So... I guess I want to know the collectibility factor. He would never sell it, but I don't want to destroy a collectors piece. I also want to know about the steel quality. Would is make a proper knife that's holds an edge well?
