And why? I'm thinking about rediscovering this big Grohman this fall and winter and was wondering who else likes to carry a big belt sheathed folder? This one is a capable and discreet workhorse that deserves more field time.

Please share your thoughts, pics, and experiences.

I just picked up this Queen Folding Hunter and, boy, is she a big one! A whole lot of purty though!;)

And why?

Well, why not?

I was in the mood for a big, pretty folder...

I do. I'm a large guy who is pretty active outdoors, so they not only fit my hands well, but are more useful when hunting or scouting.
I never use a sheath, but simply drop them in my front pants pocket, or even the watch pocket if wearing jeans, which keeps them upright.
I carried a 4-1/4" sowbelly when I went out this morning.

Here are some of my favorite "big'uns." The smallest one on the left is 4-1/8 inches closed.

This one is a pretty big one... and I like it. A good friend gave it to me, so it has sentimental and useful value. The story on this one is that it was made by Camillus in an over-run for Sears Craftsmen. So, the Craftsmen logo was ground off and the knife was sold as a second. Camillus, Sears, Craftsmen, and USA.. all tied up in this one...Big old sturdy knife :-)

Yes i like them big folders alot...A marked Western is one of my favourites at 5 1/4 closed........FES

And my old Frenchy is 8 1/2 inches closed...

Fes,

I never tire of seeing that old Frenchie. Just a wonderful old knife.

Is that a Ruger No. 1? I wanted to pick up one in .375 H&H, but it's been discontinued. I don't know what I'm going to do with a single shot elephant gun, but sometimes you just want something, no explanation needed.

I have this Kershaw Folding Field 1050 and one other. I've used the one pictured to skin an elk and a couple of deer. Very capable and very handy while out and about in the field/forest and as a camp knife..

A friend of mine sent this recently for me to contemplate.

I was led into comtemplation

Its lines, its blades
Its ebony darkness
In comparison all other ebony is cygnet's down
On the black wonder of this Trappers haft may seize
An immortal blessing from its touch
Who even in its pure and vestal modesty
Others still blush, as thinking their own touches sin

If I profane with my unworthiest hand
this holy blade, the gentler sin is this:
My fingers, five pilgrims, ready to act,
to smooth that rough edge with a tender kiss to the stone.:o

Clutch here is one that is an inch longer!

Due to many years spent in the modern knife "tactical" phase, I tend to like the larger knives (still carry my Cuda Maxx 5.5 on occasion!). I love my Buck 110 in S30V, and my Le Thiers par Chambriard 11cm, both of which get sheath carry. I've had a desire for the GEC large locking folding hunters or the Queen Mountain Man type, but haven't saved up for one yet. I did pick up the Ka-bar Coppersmith large lockback and it's a beauty! I need to buy myself a horizontal sheath, though, as I've gotten a bit annoyed with the upright sheaths that stick up above the belt line. My dunlop disease is interfering.:D (You know, my belly Done Lopped over my belt! )

Full sized Case Trapper is about as big as I want to go. I have an old late 70's Buck 110 with a sheath but it's just bigger and heavier than I need these days.

With slip joints, if you seek a handful, then it's probably a big one. I'm defining "big" as anything 4" closed length or longer. 3 1/2" is an average size as far as I'm concerned. The full sized 4 1/8" Case Trappers were some of the more recent purchases in the last few years before I started buying GEC knives.

My big GEC's consist of (in sequence purchased): #36 Sunfish, #65 Ben Hogan, #23 Pioneer (2 blade), and #42 Missouri Trapper. I was pretty excited about the #23 when I first got it, but I prefer the 4.25" #42 as my go to pocket slip joint. I still really like the Ben Hogan and Sunfish... My next purchases will probably be some of the same knives with different scales.

I have a Queen Mountain Man that I believe is 4 1/2" long, but it is a single bladed knife and slender in the pocket. I also have the Remington Big Daddy Barlow which I believe is 5 1/2"... too big for me, plus I have not been enamored with Bear & Sons quality.
