Hi,

I have just received my first auto, a BM5000 Presidio. I ordered a Black coated plain blade (5000BT) and received a Part serrated black coated one (5000SBT) .
I'll keep it, cause it's to much trouble (and taxes) to send it back to the USA. (I live in Brazil).
I do like plain edges and I do like full serrated edges. But I think this part serrated edges are not the best thing. Not mention the trouble to sharp them.

I know lots of you folks like the combo edges. Can you tell me why ? Am I missing something here ?

Regards,

I really love my 50/50 m16. People say the serrations aren't long enough on most half and half, but....I don't know how to respond to it, I mean, I use the serrations all the time. Whenever I'm working with a kind of cord, I can start the cut with the serrations...also, some materials I've had to cut were hard plastic that it was just taking too long to cut though, finished it quickly with the serrations. Most of my knives are still straight edges though. Sometimes, when I'm just carring one knife, I'm really glad to have the 50/50. Everyone needs at least one. I do like how the native does it....gives you the very edge and 90% serrations.

I don't care for combo edges. It's either fully serrated or plain for me. If I like a model that only comes in a combo edge such as the Bm 9130sbt or the SOG Seal Pup, I'll settle with it. :(

I have all three edge types and think that all three have their pros and cons. The knife gods must have thought that you needed a combo edge, and that's what you got. I bet you'll be happy with it.

The other day I was working in the garden and needed to cut a one inch nylon rope. I was carrying a small Beretta Airlight with a combo edge. It's a very small knife and only sports 3/4 of an inch of serrations on a 2.5 inch blade. But the serrations really tore through the rope. I'd probably still be out there sawing on that rope if it weren't for the combo edge.

I like combo edge blades sometimes, but ordinarily I simply prefer plain edge. I would like combo edges better if the serrations were on the front end of the blade, and were maybe a full half of the blade, though.

I tend to prefer PE, but you know.....those combo edges/full SE do have a place. when I'm doing yardwork, one of my folders in my pocket is the Gerber EZ-OUT which is probably closer to full SE than a true combo edge, and in more than few instances, it's worked way better than a full PE. For me, it's been used on branches and nylon cording in one form or another. The combo edge or full SE, just seems to cut faster. One the other side, was well, I've used the odd combo edge, and it just got in the way - probably in the way I cut things, but that first tooth alway seemed to snag at the wrong time for me. I was going to acquire one of the full SE Spydies this weekend, but I ran out of time to get in some "shopping". I keep hearing how well they worked, and I'm now curious to try one out. Maybe this weekend....... :)

Most people seem to prefer either one or t'other.

I'm very happy with my Benchmade 710 HSSR. Good steel, sleek looks, Axis lock and the flexibility to handle any job.

Result!
