I am looking at purchasing my first WE knife but cannot for the life of me decide which one. If you have handled 1 or more of my considerations, I'd love some feedback.

I am looking for something stout that can take "hard use" when required rather than slicey. Something that can take a beating; thick with a beefy tip. I have enough slicey thin blades and want something durable.

I am considering:
601
602
604
610
614

Thanks!

Never handled one. I really like the VDK War Admiral Cleaver (made by WE).
Not for $300 though :(

50/50-ish for me. Most of their designs are a little too far out there for me. I prefer more utilitarian blades. I did pick up a Slipstream for an extremely good deal and will say the quality/F&F is outstanding.

I just got a 604T in Damasteel but already had a 604 and a 704. All perfect, in fact I can't say enough good things about We Knives. The 604 seems plenty stout with a thick beefy tip on the tanto.

I'm super happy WE finally made a lefty friendly model, the 715 Ignition. I really hope they branch out to more lefty friendly models. I've heard a lot of stellar reviews of that knife.

Same here. I love a lot of their designs....but without a lefty pocketclip option a knife won't get no love from me.

I'm so so with we after getting a few we made knives. I probably won't be buying anymore unless they make something I have to have. But overall they are good with the occasional issues that most knife companies have also.

There are a lot of owners of the Massdrop/FF knives, I have a Falcon and it is very nicely built.

At $250 they (the 6 series you are talking about) are fairly priced but not a bargain IMO - that's a super competitive price point they are fighting in. Not dinging them just saying I don't think they are batting above their league - but I would certainly consider one.

If tip strength is what you're looking for, go for the 601. The tip is about as beefy as it gets.

If you're a fan of disassembling your knives to maintain them, watch out for their 5-point male star fasteners. They're soft, the provided tool is soft, and the tool is one-size-fits-all for different size heads. You can imagine how that adds up. Some of the newer models have proper female torx hardware.

Aside from that, and some thick edges (which you've stated you don't care about) WE seems to be great.

Awesome thanks guys.
Vanadium do you know which models have the proper torx hardware?

Slipstream, Eschaton, Blitz. Maybe a couple others, recent releases only. You can spot it pretty easily from photos. Note that some torx-screwed models were shown with 5-point-star fasteners in the prototype/knife show phase, so make sure you're looking at photos of current retail versions.

Personally I'm waiting to buy a WE until there's a broad selection with torx. Too many other good choices out there if you plan on actually using your knife and needing to clean it out.

Among the Chinese makers I'm a fan of Rikeknife. Great torx hardware, no thread locker, great F&F, and a quantity of thoughtful and well-executed design touches rarely seen in factory knives. The 1504A can be gotten for a steal these days. My pal just picked one up a couple of weeks ago and I think it's becoming his #1 user, and I have one inbound this week. Simultaneously beastly and slicey, but maybe too thin behind the edge for your requirement. Anyway check out their stuff if you haven't already.

Thanks man. Rike look pretty cool. Gotta do some more investigating before I decide if I rather one than a WE.

At this moment in time I have narrowed it down to either the 702 or 604
