As I understand from reading a few posts, a couple of Kamis put marks on the blades. My 20" Sirupati has a the 6-pointed 'Star of David' mark on it....is this indicative of a particular kami?

This is the mark of Kumar.

I've noticed that the kamis have slacked off on marking their blades. They still don't see any importance to the marking and if I don't keep after them continuously they will not mark their blades.

Nepal ho!

Okay. This is what I understand.---( Bura has Cresent Moon) --- ( Kumar has Six pointed star)--- (Kesar has Half sun--) (Prakesh has Small khukuri)--- (Sanu has Cross)--- ( Sher has Full sun)--- ( Khadka Fish).--- Correct me please if I am wrong or mispelled someone's name uncle Bill.

I imagine it takes time and effort to put on a maker's mark. Why not pay the kamis a little extra for khukuris with a proper mark on them? Such khukuris will be worth more on the US market.

I think the kamis would get the idea pretty quickly.

Tell them an unsigned khukuri is a villager and you'll pay accordingly.

What are the general tendencies of the kamis? Kumar (if I recall) makes them thick, hefty and strong...Sher makes them slender and light (correct me if I'm wrong)...

Hey Bill, you could get a request list going...gimmee a 20" sirupati by Sher. stuff like that.

Thanks Unc. The blade maker has more than one skill than the art of pounding leaf springs into khukuris. There is much knowledge here especially tempering the blade 4 or more different ways. (i.e.) spine -tang -edge -tip - shaping, etc. -- I think it's fascinating. Then there is the handle & scabbard to be concerened with.

Kumar's six-pointed star mark, which may have little significance to him, is, in one of those serendipitous global coincidences that the Net makes possible, the reason there's a 15" Sirupati of his on special order, to be set up for left-handed carry for a southpaw rabbi who's into martial arts and gardening.

JM - I've been meaning to mention it might also do to take a little bit off the top at a bris for jewish whales in case you didn't read my comments on the 30" Sirupati.

Jon, sun is circle with rays emitting all directions.

We got a shipment in yesterday and not a single khukuri had the kami mark on it. I emailed asking that the marks not be forgotten. Gelbu called last night and said he got wiped out by Love Bug virus and all my email went with it. I don't know what orders went, too, but I know I am very weary of guys who get their kicks out of making extra work for heart surgery survivors.
