hi , you all.

i heard that CRK made knives for Spartan blades , is it true ?

One of the owners of Spartan Blades did his apprenticeship under Chris Reeve but I do not believe Chris Reeve is making their knives.

I'm almost positive they do their own work on their knives. I know that William Harsey has collaborated with them on projects for some designs and I think their "sparta coat" is put on by another professional company as this is super expensive equipment to buy and although it's still expensive to get PVD coatings done i know they spare no expense in getting the best materials and coatings, but i think the tooling grinding and machining of all the materials comes from curtis and the boys. I could be wrong? it's as easy as emailing them, Curtis has answered every question i have ever sent him via email and seems really open to discussion so drop them a line and I'm sure they will accomodate any questions you have. All i know is they make a pretty great knife and i've seen them used pretty hard so whatever they are doing, it seems to be working pretty well.

Their shop is just down the road from me, I've visited it several times. They do all of their own grinding and assembly in their shop. As previously mentioned they know and are friends with Chris Reeves, but they've never collaborated with him or had him make any of their knives. Very nice knives, good guys.

I know Curtis the co-owner of Spartan blades they have done some collaborations and yes they did have Chris Reeves imput in their folder. They are a Nc based company in Amberdeen(may have spelled that wrong) or near it. They make and cater to the military. The Breed dagger is hands down the best dagger I've ever had the pleasure to use and own. Customer service is like no other I mean they are on it ASAP! Now this is just my experience and my opinion but I can't say enough good things about them! Whatever it is you want from them just buy it!

Other than certain collaborations, like the Harsey Hunter and the Horrigan Bowie, Spartan makes their own blades (and chopsticks).

They do have outside companies do some of the other things, like make the sheaths. But they source everything from US companies, and a lot of their stuff is sourced from veteran owned firms.

I love that they make "tactical" chopsticks. I have a hard time justifying the cost of a set of titanium and carbon fiber chopsticks, but they look fun.

Buy with confidence, if you ever have a question about a Spartan blade, even a highly technical one, the answer is a quick call or e-mail away. They're great about explaining anything and everything, and really know what a knife is capable of.

Millit Knives likely manufactures anything they need outsourced. Millit has quite a few ex-CRK employees working for them. If one of the owners apprenticed under Chris Reeve, then its all one big network between the companies.

Last I heard, Harsey grinds all the Harsey Spartans himself.

Not the Difensa or Model II. When I bought my Difensa I thought seriously about ponying up for the Hunter, so that I could get one that Bill had ground, but ultimately I decided it was the Difensa that I really wanted, hand ground or not.

All accurate and solid advice - Spartan does not farm their knives out to CRK; their knives are theirs unless otherwise stated with certain collaborations.

We had Mark Carey drop off our first shipment of Spartan Blades today. I asked him about what work they outsource. The heat treat and coating work are outsourced to local nearby companies. He went on and on about the company that does their heat treat. This company has been in business for 3 generations and are widely considered the heat treat masters.

Mark and Curtis (the owners/makers) are both incredible guys with amazing Military backgrounds. They put their heart and soul in to their knives and it shows. If you have never checked one out, you should!
