who made the Lg smatchet?

Can anyone tell me who produced the applegate/fairbain? smatchet.(not the mini)
I have only seen one and dont remember if it was buck,al-mar or??.
Is it still made??

I think it was Al Mar.....though, not sure if it is still in production.

Bcuk made it for a while also. Look way back in the Buck forum for a big thread about it. Thier was also an article about the smatchet in the Gun Digest's book on knives, 6th addition I believe. You should find the exact name of the book back in that old thread.

Buck did 500 then quit do to QC problems
Al Mar did them and supposedly still is but good luck finding one
Bill Harsey did the original customs
Eight Dollar Mountain Forge is doing a cast aluminum handle version

Don't bother looking for a new Al mar Smatchet as I was just informed that they are out of the "fixed-blade" buisness.
