Hi guys!

I just got a knife today which I shot out of the Bay. Well, so far so good. The question who made it has already been placed in the "watcha got on order"-thread and the answer was it was made by Queen.

Well alright - I gonna start at the beginning. I got the shot at the Bay. The knife arrived and I opened the package. I tought I would find a knife in there that is like my Swell Center Whittler I got some time ago. But it wasn´t. There was a tube and some paperwork, next to a nice sheath for the knife and the knife (of course).

(Looks pretty GECish for me)

Then the paper works... which is making it even more stranger... Queen is named as well as GEC...

Some knife pics

That Moose is a tank ... comparison to the #23 (!!!) and the #66 Serpentine Jack

Well, I´m a little confused and maybe I just can´t read the paperworks correct, but as much as I understand it was once Queen and GEC and now it´s Tuna Valley. Being honest, the bone looks pretty much like the bone Queen uses on their knives, at least for me. There are also some gaps that don´t cause anything... but the knife closes and opens like a tank in any way.

What do you guys think?

Ken Daniels and Bill Howard were kind of co-founders of GEC. Last year, they parted company (on good terms). Bill still runs GEC, and Ken Daniels is now president of Queen Cutlery Company. Both companies are located in Titusville, PA. Tuna Valley knives are built by Queen, along with Schatt and Morgan.

VERY nice knife!

Hope this helps,
Dan

Tuna Valley Knives have been produced by Queen Cutlery since about the Spring of 2012. Prior to that MOST Tuna Valley's were produced by Great Eastern Cutlery. The Tuna Valley Brand is owned by the Daniels Family Brands and since about mid-year 2012 so are Queen Cutlery and Schatt & Morgan. Great Eastern Cutlery has never been a part of Queen Cutlery, or any association there of.

Thanks for the added info, Bob! So I'd say that going off the little info sheet that came with Andi's knife, this knife was built by Queen, correct?

So, going by the above-- made by Queen, with the Tuna Valley sub-brand now being the purview of Courtney Daniels, as per the tube label and signed certificate: "I'm in complete control now." -- ?

(Looks like they still have some PR tone issues to work out. ;))

That pattern IMO is the same as the one used for the Swell Center Forum knife from a couple of years ago, including the stiff springs. A substantial knife I'd say.

Queen has some experience with ATS-34 steel as well, so it all fits.

And I agree, Queen and Courtney both need some help with their image-in-print!

Sheesh!

Thanks for the advices...

Bob, I know you answered me the question, but I was just too curious about the whole thing... the GEC packaging the Queenish bone etc etc... but now I know who made this knife. It´s beautiful, I think. The 154 CM I only know by my Benchmade Griptilian which followed me many years during service - great steel!

And yes, this knife has propably the stiffest springs I have ever seen. 8.5/10 or even a 9/10

No problem Andi! The packaging might have been Ken Daniels design, while at GEC, and the idea re-used at Tuna Valley. Or it could be just copied from GEC. Except for the Graphics of course.

Really nice looking knife, Andi!
I'm a fan of those monster springs as well

Had I read this label just before meeting Courtney I would swear they were totally different people. I found her and Ryan to both be quite pleasant folk. But I certainly agree with you and Charlie they need a bit of work on the PR front. For what it is worth, while discussing the S&M and Tuna Valley brands, they both made it quite clear that Tuna Valley was Courtney's gig. Wonder how that works out, having your wife as a customer:eek:
