Howdy all. Going through some odds and ends, came across this trapper type folder. The visible part of the tang stamp shows "Gartm" in what looks to be an arrowhead. Guessing it says Gartman, but can't see the last letters, nor the last part of the presumed arrowhead logo. I could not find anything on the web, my google-fu may be weak right now . Any idea of who made this, when, where? Maybe a custom, evidenced by the filework? Mods- if not in the right place, feel free to move or delete.

Thanks for any info or comments!

Fred

Thanks! I changed it to public, so hopefully can be viewed now. Strange, thought defaulted to public before. Appreciate any insights on the knife!

That looks custom/handmade to me (filework and the blade stamps). I have no clue as to who made it, but it looks like a pretty nice one, nevertheless. Maybe you could take another pic, with the marked blade at about 1/2 open position? That might reveal a little more of the maker's mark, I hope.

Thank you David - Obessed With Edges. Agree, likely handmade/custom. Will update with 1/2 open picture when can get a shot. Looking at it, can see next letter is probably "A" - 'GARTMA----' Does looks similar to maker you found, but stamp different and no filework on the blades. Has crisp half stops on both blades. Will post new photo. Thanks!!Fred

Howdy. Added a photo showing tang stamp at half- stop. Still looks like next letter is "A" - "GARTMA-" . Thanks for any info / leads. Peace,
Out,
Fred

Yes,Its Gartman.Cant recall his first name at the moment. He was from south Texas.Did real fancy filework.Heat treated with a torch.( : Really nice f&f and tough quality.Real good man.Passed away back in the mid 90's maybe.I bought a few knives from him.One for my dad he still has.A single blade lockback.

You bet,I was happy to see the knife. He used to do the Charlie Jones shows in Ft.Worth and i would see him there.(the good old days)Sent you an email.
Thank you Seals! Good to learn a bit about the knife. It is nice. Thanks again!

Since this is a 7 year old thread I'm going to close it. Go to his profile page and leave him a Profile Post. If he's around he'll get a notification.
