I purchased this off of eBay several years ago and I recently rediscovered it in my vault. It is a bit heavy, but I think it will have good utility and it is obviously quite well done. I remember flame hardening and tru oil'ing the handle, but the transactional paperwork is long gone.

My hope is that someone can identify the maker based on the anvil stamp on the right cheek. Does this look familiar to anyone?

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer...

I just received a message from an eBay seller named "Fetco", he stated that he has these hand forged in Utah. I must have purchased it from him, long ago.

He describes it as...

"Approx 4" bit with Poll. The hardened steel bit insert is made of old leaf spring (probably 5160) The poll (hammer head) is made from 4130 chrome moly steel, and of course the outer strap is mild steel. Each hawk is hand forged and each will be a little different than the photos. Unbeatable as all around camp axe. Comes with new 19" straight grain hickory handle that you fit. This type of axe dates back to the revolutionary war. New hand-forged in USA."

I may do a few mods on it as it seems quite well done for $40.00.

any more info ? could not find him on ebay. thanks

I just received mine in the mail yesterday. Seems very well made and nicer than I expected. I haven't tried it around camp yet, though.

It is from Fetco on ebay. I bought one from him earlier this year for about the same price. Looked very similar. Great axe and great price too. No idea who the maker is other than he is in Utah. I don't remember mine having that maker's mark on it. Came with a really nice, but rough edge. I took a file to it to clean it up a bit and DAMN it was sharp. Bit me really good later that day.
