Can anyone tell me if anyone makes a 1/4" thick blade production folder? Thanks!!

Why 1/4 inch thick? Wouldnt a small fixed blade suite you better? I know the Strider AR is thick at 0.1875, would .25 be necessary? the XM-1 by ontario is thick,

you could probably have one custom made.

The Extreme Ratio Fulcrum II I owned was every bit that thick as I recall. Surprisingly it took a very good slicing edge too. One tough knife that one!

The Buck Strider 880 and 881 are the second closest in production folders that I know of to this thickness. Those were not as thick but still very thick strong little knives. The 881 is a real tank being that short and stubby.

STR is right about Extrema Ratio. Most of their folders are .24 thick, which may as well be .25. They are the thickest folders I know of. Very expensive, however.

I'm not sure how reliable the site is, but http://xtremeknives.com/ has all of them available for delivery.

All of these are .24.

Thanks guys! I knew they were out there. I like a tough knife that can have nice deep grinds without making it too thin. I also like thick spines incase I want to hammer against it to split pieces of wood.
huugh, The fixed blades I make are out of 1/4" and 3/16" stock, so yes I have handled thick knives.

The Greco Whisper is 3/16" as well...

trentu, Greco's folders are too tough for words. You have to beat on one to believe it. They are really flat/compact, too, unlike the others, that just take up a lot of room.

I don't think you could break the Fulcrum II. I saw a test out there by someone once that pitted the Fulcrum II against the Strider SnG but it was obviously biased to make the Strider come out shining in my opinion. I agree that the Strider slices better and pretty much will out cut the Fulcrum II but when it came to testing the break strength they cheated if you ask me. If they had locked the lock on that Fulcrum as they should have the machine would have broken the seals before the knife or the lock gave out and they know it! Don't get me wrong the SnG is a fine knife. I've owned one for a while and had it when I had the Fulcrum II to compare them side by side.

The Fulcrum II is a very specialized knife and certainly not for everyone. Its not a practical EDC knife at all and is very thick, heavy and kind of awkward. The biggest complaint I had about it was the positioning of the thumb stud on it which is far too low in my opinion. They should remount that higher on the blade if you ask me. Otherwise for a hard use military folder its about as tough as they come.

I stood on this knife locked open once after clamping it in my upside down work tables wood vice with a block under it to elevate it up enough to allow me to do it and it just held me lightly bouncing on it. All 220 pounds of me no problem. I then sold it and the guy that bought it never had any problems or issues with it after I tested it out. Try that with another knife. One thing is certain with the Fulcrum II anyway. It walks the walk and is the real deal but its not worth even the discount price IMO.

Thanks for everyones input. I am going with the Extrema Ratio RAO. It will fit the bill nicely. Expensive but tough. Hope I find one instock.

I thought Extrema Ratio knives were 0.23", not 0.024". Clearly too thin. Had a Nemesis and a Fulcrum IID. If I had to do it again and still did it, I'd get the MPC.

I've always been a bit interested in the Nemesis. Is it chisel ground? What didn't you like about it, and why would you take the MPC?

It's dual ground - It's the sharpest isocoles triangle I've ever owned. The MPC has a higher grind over the same width which makes it have a thinner edge than the Nemesis. Since it's already too thick for the cutting I want, the serrations might also help aid in cutting. Would rather go with folders from Spyderco and Kershaw and nonstainless fixed blades for more fun.

The Ontario extreme 1 is quite a beast also ,I bought one , and it is just heavy duty, I really didn't need anything that thick, but I own one. I may as well carry a straight knife,as to carry it...Good knife for a jack handle..

The dreaded Dark Ops folders have 1/4" blades. In spite of what some people will tell you here these folders are built extremely heavy and lock up extra solid. They are just thick and I mean everywhere. I don't have any extra love for the one knife out of around 80 in the house that happens to be a D.O. and I don't know a lot about the man behind them or how they came into existence, but they really are a solid heavy duty knife. (don't bother arguing with me about the way they are advertised or what they are a copy of because it's just a example of a heavy-duty knife that happens to be in my home and there's many other brands here and one Dark Ops so I'm not defending them or trashing them)

Trident Knives makes folders that are .20 inch thick. I've never had the chance to handle one myself, but they look extremely heavy duty.
