Hey all.

Do you all know any brands that offer a Bowie or Clip Point Fixed blade that’s meant for hunting and camping?

I love the Bowie style Knives but they usually come in blade lengths of 7 inches and up. I think that’s a bit big for general hunting/camping and outdoor chores.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time and help.

Here’s an example of the kind of knife I really like. It’s a Camillus/Fisk that’s been outbid production for many years. It has a 7 3/4” blade.

Okay... The Buck 124 has a 6 1/4" blade. The Bucks all have a clip point blade. Bowies have been made in many different blade shapes. Are you looking for something with more of a scimitar blade?

I can't think of anyone who makes that style in the size you're wanting. There are plenty of talented knifemakers here. Surely it wouldn't be too hard to find someone that would be glad to make you one.
One knifemaker here comes to mind when I look at picture you posted. Tony Mont Tony Mont
That looks like it's right up his alley.

If you want a blade that is good but a little rough on finishing, Svord makes a i Bowie, they have the Ranger but I was thinking more of the others with double brass guard. I believe it is the 280B with a 6.5 inch carbon blade.

Then the Buck 119 comes in basic steel and the upgraded steel too. I would go for that first or try one of the makers on the exchange. Also, TOPs makes a few, more tactical looking though and probably micarta not sure if that would be traditional since you asked in traditional forum. bark river also has some, but also look at Fox knives, Boker, and maybe Joker.

Sounds like you might be looking for what is more often just referred to as a "Sportsman" pattern... there are lots of old vintage ones out there and GEC's H10, H30, and H40 fit that bill too. They're usually UNDER your 6" mark but I like the for the same reason you're describing: great camp knife but not a big monster of a tool and they're easy peasy to carry around. They came in quite a few different sizes though so some might be closer to your 6" requirement.

You can usually find some old vintage pieces for reasonable prices if you're open to used. Kent, Colonial, Camillus, and Imperial all made quite a few. They're often in delrin handles but you can also occasionally find them in bone or even jigged wood.
