I found out Ray Rogers has a 12 month backorder so I've been forced to look other places... like here! I want a 4" tanto chisel grind with thin G10 slabs. It will be a (large)neck knife or pulling hideout duty IWB. Any makers?

Becker necker by Camillus is one that pops to mind. Great knife for the money. Good steel too.

Check out the Knifemakers Forum here on BFC. Bet you could get a lead there

If its fixed hunting blades you want why not have a look at CRKT'S designer Russ Kommer?
Russ has a great selection of awesome custom fixed blades at very resonable prices or I'm sure he will make one just for you!

Sounds a little like the tanto from Knifekits, except that really would be a large neckknife. It does have the 4" tanto blade you asked for and I'm sure you could put G-10 handles on it without much trouble. I don't know if a chisel grind is available, though.

I held one with the cordwrap at last year's Blade show it just fit my hand beautifully. I have no need for it, but I'm still tempted to buy one.

However it is not Tanto and skeleton knife, from other hand it is not too much neck knifes around.

Thanks, Vassili.

I think Justin from Ranger Knives is back from Iraq, and is definitely worth getting in touch with.

Perhaps something like this, only with G10 slabs?

Check out Kathleen Tomey. The picture is from her website .

I think the ABS website has a listing of all of its master and journeyman smiths, and it's divided first by state, then alphabetically by maker. Also, support your local knifemakers. Ask around at the shop you go to, Google knifemakers and your zip code, or your state. They'll probably charge less, and will probably have more time to work with you on a design.

I think that some of Bud Nealy's tanto's are chisel ground. I really like his work, although his G10 is a little too rough for my soft girly hands.

Hello Solidsoldier

For the price, Jason Cutter produces knives where the quality of craftsmanship & materials is so high you’d think he was paying you to take them. The designs are masterful & mature too. http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/~terenceoh/jcbknives/default.html
While you are in Cali. & he is the other side of the pacific in Melbourne, Australia- which can only add to delivery times, he does plenty of customs for US customers. Use the search engine on this forum to find posts by satisfied US owners. The exchange rate currently $0.76USD = $1.00AUD makes his good value knives cheaper than many production knives!.

You say your after a tanto style blade?- I fancy getting one of those made by him too

In terms of a 4” jap-style blade-

Ray Ennis, (Entrek knives http://www.ennis-entrekusa.com/ ) makes a almost exactally what you want. (no chisel grind) He normally uses canvas micarta for handles but I bet you could talk him into g10

The model you are looking for is the JAG

They charge $125

Thanks for the replies all. I dropped Chase some mail on his Lil Tuffie but with a tanto point and zero grind.
