who makes a good lower end straight razor?

i want to get my first straight razor but, i don't want to spend a lot of money. because i don't shave i have a beard. i just want one to have one . i see lots of different razors on ebay but have no knowledge of razors. any suggestions?

For an affordable straight razor (not low-end), vintage is the way to go. The problem with eBay is finding one that is truly "shave ready". I would recommend going to a site like Badger & Blade and keeping your eyes on the Buy/Sell/Trade Forum. I have purchased several there for under $40 that have given me many fine shaves with no more than a little stropping needed to keep them maintained. (In fact, I think I got one razor with a strop for $40.)

There are a few on eBay right now that I might take a chance on but I am no expert and I would/will be doing just that: taking a chance. I am sure someone with more knowledge will step in sooner or later and set things straight for us.

Until then, my 2 cents: for an affordable straight razor... vintage:thumbup: / new low-end brand :thumbdn:

Buying a razor on eBay is really "buyer beware" unless you really know what you're doing. I agree that you should be looking at the B/S/T areas of Badger & Blade, but another good place is Whipped Dog:

If you want new, Dovo is probably the best "inexpensive" razor out there.
