My Kyocera is too quiet.

I keep it in my pocket (I hate belt carry, and on a belt it'd get covered in flour), and the speakerphone isn't loud enough for me to hear it ring. Doesn't matter what ringtone I use, it's not loud enough. And yes, I've made sure all the settings are at max. If I'm inside at work (noisy ovens), I never hear it ring.

The ear speaker is too quiet too. I have to walk outside the store to hear anything.

The vibrate function is useless too. Never mind the fact that because of the external buttons it constantly switches back and forth from Ringer to Silent (it also keeps taking pictures of the inside of my pocket  ), the vibrator is just too weak; I can't feel anything (no dirty jokes please).

I know it's not must my particular phone, a girl at work had the exact same phone and she had the same complaints. It'd also be nice to have a way to lock out the external buttons (without needing to unlock the entire phone). I know LG phones have a loud ringer with a rather vigorous vibrate mode; my mom has a cheapo LG, and the thing nearly vibrated itself off the couch, so I'll definitely look into LG. But I'd like some more options, just for comparison sake.

Samsung. Or maybe I have really good ears. Every phone that I have owned was a Samsung. I can hear mine from my room which is on the second floor, to the living room while watching TV.

I, respectfully, disagree with Samsung. I've had two.

I'm moderately hearing impaired and I CAN'T STAND IT when the phone is too quiet or has a bad connection.

I have sprint now with a LG (Sprint Brand) phone.
At first, I had trouble hearing the ring, until I learned it a bit and figured out that some "songs" are quiet while some regular "single rings" were loud. It also has a "High + Vibrate" that lets it ring loud and vibrate at the same time.

It also gets good reception.

My new job is in an office building that's like a lead box for almost all cell phones. No reception at all for my old T-Mobile and many others.

A couple weeks ago, I was in my cubicle when I heard my cube-neighbor's cell ring. I walked over and said, "Did I just hear your cell phone ring?"

He says, "Yeah, I was as surprised as you are. It's Sprint."

Turns out Sprint has excellent coverage (at least here in Denver) and is clear.

So, I got Sprint and I've been happy. The voices on the phone are really loud and I chose a really loud ring tone by sitting in the passanger seat of a truck with the window down while going through the tones.

Now, I'm set up pretty perfect for someone, like me, with a moderate hearing impairment.

Get Sprint.
Use the built-in ring-tones "+ vibrate" and avoid the downloadable "songs".

I feel for you. I had the same problems.

I'm a contractor that wanted to join the high tech, camera phone people, but about two months ago when I had to replace my phone I ended up with the Sanyo Model RL-4930.

It seems to be a bullet proof model, with extraordinary battery life and loud ringers. Look it up and you will see some solid reviews.

imho the nokias are pretty loud, my razr isnt very loud really, i leave the vibe on all the time though, the volume on the ear mic is plenty loud though no problem with that, if my radio is on i cant hear the razr ring at all, i am deaf though.

I hve been using a Motorola V551(IIRC), and that thing is loud.

It also has a great vibrate mode that will run the phone off the table.

This is the best phone I have yet to use, and has lasted me around 2 years, which is unheard of in my division since we average around 2,000 minutes per month. Not to mention the water and hydrogen sulfide exposure.

I have to get a new one now, and cannot find these.

What a brilliant plan. The product lasts and works great, therefore we must introduce something new.

NOKIA phones are very, very loud. I have a Nokia 6600 that is as loud as a home phone and the vibe is pretty strong. I have it set to do both when a call comes in. The other day it scared the hell out of me. I had taken it off vibe and then forgot that I put it back on thinking it was still off when a call came in.

That's my current phone. It's been a great one too. Super long battery life, and the ability to get online, if needed(I don't use it for that though).

Just purchased the 4930 the other day(Sprint as well) I had the Sanyo precursor to this model(dropped it one too many times), and had wanted to upgrade to a cool camera phone, too, BUT can't be a flip-phone, would crush it!!

The only bad thing on these is the control buttons on the outside left. The volume toggle is ok, but I have found the record button to be unnecessary, pulled it, shaved off the nub that makes contact with the controller, and re-installed with epoxy. Looks proper, doesn't function. Phone is LOUD at full volume.

In my estimation, every phone I've ever heard is too loud. And don't get me started on those abhorent ring tones. Do these people really think everyone else is amused at their favorite song? I'll digress before I get going too strong.

LMAO! You even Garssonized your phone!:D

I'm currently using a LG VX 6100.

I have it set to ring and vibrate at the same time, and I have no trouble whatsoever hearing and feeling it vibrate, and I work in a machine shop. (Very noisy, and I wear ear plugs)

I wear it on my belt in a Maxpedition case most of the time, but when I'm in shorts, or dressed up, I slip it in my front pocket. No trouble hearing it or feeling it vibrate.

I've been happy with this LG phone; my last one was a Motorola, and it died on me in the middle of a call. No, it wasn't the battery.

Thanks for the advice guys. I went with an LG VX8300, which has not one, but two ringer/speakers, each of which seems louder than the tiny, tinny one on my Kyocera. Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" sounds much, much better (and much louder). The speakers are on the outside of the hinges (which seem much more robust than my Kyocera's), so they're also less likely to be muffled by my pants/leg inside my pocket. I'm certain it'll work fine, but even if it doesn't, I can return/exchange it in 15 days.

Vibrate is also nice and strong. I swear, it vibrates more from the volume of the ringer alone than my Kyocera's vibrate mode did.
