Who makes an unbreakable pen?

I need an inexpensive pen "under $40 if possible" that is hard to break.I carry my check book in my hip pocket and have broken several that screwed together in the middle. Most were plastic though or cheap metal.A thicker metal with good long threads might work .

I have used the cheap kind that just flex a little but they usually quit working fairly soon.

I recently bought one that I thought was perfect. It was supose to have a one piece stainless barrel and screwed at the tip.Turned out the advertised one piece barrel was two pieces pressed together.

Thanks for any suggestions.

That reminds me of the Cougar Allen Fundamental Knife Test (remember, it's not the Cougar Allen Fundamental Knife Test unless it uses the Cougar Allen Standard Fundament).

I think the all-steel version of the Parker Jotter can probably stand being sat on, but I'm not sure of it. It screws together in the middle. It's cheap, anyway....

Zebra F-701! Under 10 bucks, and it takes a Fisher SPR refill if you take the plastic spacer out of the tip. :D

But it screws into a thin plastic sleeve that isn't all that tough. I've had 2 of those break on me right there. The tip area is kinda thin too, so if you drop it, it'll deform and the ink tube will jam (until you stick something else in there and reform it).

I have a Rotring 600 multipen. If you sit on it you might break your hip, but you won't break the pen. Its handy to have blue, red and pencil all in one, but its very heavy.

I would recommend one of the other Rotrings. The multipen may be handy but the little refills are a nuisance if you actually write with it a lot.

I use a Zebra f-701 just like Clead. It's a very good pen and fairly indestructible' I would certainly buy it again if I had to.

Thanks everyone, you have given me several to look into.

xbxb and Clead
That Zebra F-701 is the one I thought would be perfect. When the original ink tube leaked inside,I tried to clean it and stressed it too much. That is when I learned that the stainless tube is a two piece, pressed together at the upper edge of the knurled grip.

Thanks

How about Cross pens, the all metal pens.

I'll second the Cross. My dad gave me one in 1963, and I still have it. It went through my time in the army, and has been carried alot. Most of the chrome is worn off, and it has a few dents, but it still works fine. It gets a new refill now and then, and writes great.

46 years of steady service.

I carry a metal bodied Pilot G2. It screws together and would probably break under considerable weight (but I think you could sit on it, I have). But it's pretty tough and has stood up well to carry and use.

It was only $11 at Jet Pen.com, so if you do manage to destroy it, it's not the end of the world.

About two weeks ago, I purchased a Fisher Bullet Pen in black matte with clip at Staples for $17.79. Very happy with it!

I have a couple Cross pens & I have to say the SS one is practically indestructable. I don't know how long I've had the SS one, but probably over 10 yrs. My other Cross pens is almost 30 yrs old, I believe. Of course, since I've had these for so long, I have no clue how much a SS Cross is.

I recently picked up a Zebra F-701 & thought it's pretty good. I didn't know the SS tube is 2-piece, though. That's good to know, but it'd still be a good pen to take along on a flight or something. The knurling makes it grippier than the Cross pen.

Another pen that I've had for about a yr now, is the Hinderer Extreme Duty aluminum pen. I got it on a trade & have to say that it's an extremely solid pen that can double as a Kubaton (Of course, that's what it's designed around). It's also quite a bit more than your target price (Unless you pick it up for a great price or trade).

The Fisher pens look like they'd do the trick & I especially like the one with a pocket clip. I had a SS Fisher Space Pen & it was another tough knife, but a little slippery, IMHO.

For the $, you can't beat the Zebra F-701 ($5 at Wal-Mart) & the knurling's a big plus, IMHO. However, the Cross & Fisher pens are probably the sturdiest for the price.

Good luck with whatever you get.

+1 for the Fisher Space/Bullet Pen ... pretty robust and writes on anything, at any angle, and underwater ... or in an anti-gravity environment - should you find yourself in one.

Fisher Bullet pen. The standard for tough and easily carried.

Mil-Tac pen. Over your budget, but it will pay for itself in durability and utility.

+1 on both of these. With the Mil-Tac, I swapped the refill it comes with (roller ball) and put in a Fisher ballpoint. It is now an awesome pen. Unbreakable, writes on anything, goes anywhere.

I have the black matte bullet pen with the clip which is great. Also, the AG-7 Astronaut pen is among my favorites, chrome plated but with grooves etched into it at the grip for better feel. I EDC this or the Mil-Tac along with my fountain pen.
