Hi all,

I haven't been able to find a maker in New Zealand that could do what I'm looking for - basically I'm trying to get a convex ground kukri based on the Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri blade pattern - with a tapered tang, micarta handle and boron carbide coating (without paying an absolute fortune...)

I've never had a custom made knife made before, so I'm not sure where to start... any ideas?

BTW I already have HI WWII and a Brigade Quartermasters Combat Kukri, I'm looking for a synthesis of the 2!

Cheers,

Hi,

I can only think of a few makers who make custom Kukris:

Roy Genge

P.O. Box 57
Eastlake, CO
80614
303-451-7991

Vince Evans
6301 Apache Trail
Show Low, AZ 85901
520-537-9123

Mr. Evans makes nice art Kukris. Any custom Kukri should cost $500, and up. Another maker who is now gone who made them was Martin Kruse.

HTH:D!!!

Another approach may be to design the knife, actually draw out the details, in a sort-of mechanical drawing.

Then, pester your favorite knife maker to make it.

If you make a model from wood, the kamis at HI can do it in steel. I designed a bolo this way and they did an outstanding job. I am doing a short sword model for another forumite to be done by them. Several others have done this with good results. It will be cheaper than any other option for sure, with unpassed quality. These guys have been making khukuris for their whole lives. whoops... sorry I just saw the micarta and boron coating stipulations, I don't think HI can do those.
