My custom knife will be in the next week:D, & I need a sheath. Any recommendations on a sheath maker? (Also, do I have to send them the knife for them to make a sheath? The knife is heavy (18 inches overall, 12 inch blade, 2 inches wide, 1/4 thick) and will be expensive to ship.) Any recommendations or Ideas? Much appreciated guys!

Try rainwalker creations but prepare to wait, I am close to the top now ,just talked to Jeff busy as helll and I was on the list November 2008... Mike billman for kydex maybe a week turn around

The knife maker did not offer a sheath to go with that monster... and yes you'll need to ship the custom blade part of the deal if you want it to fit correctly.. use USPS flate rate box..... $8.95 or $9.95 depends on the area and up to 25lbs.

No offer of a sheath. I assumed he would sheath my knife but I thought about it again and I asked him. (we know about "ass-u-me") I'm glad I asked, and he said "no sheath" but offered to send it to a sheath maker of my choice. Im so excited to get the knife I told him I would find a sheath maker on my own. The knife maker is very cool, and he was great about everything so far. You know how most of us are about getting our toys, we get so excited and anxious, we forget to think about our future needs. So that is why I ask, because now I am responsible for the sheath. I would have like kydex, but now I feel leather is the best option.

JRE made the sheath for the TAK1 Jeff sent me and I am very happy with the work. You can always check them out too.

You could also get in touch with Reid of Sharpshooter Sheath Systems. He does the sheaths for Bark River and the RC-4 and RC-3 sheaths on KSF. They are top notch. He works in kydex and leather.

Andy of Andy's Leather House is great too. He built the RC-6 sheath in the give away in the sticky section. It's a beauty!

A few months back I had a sheath made by Charlie at:

Here are some pics and review of what I had made for the custom Justin Gingrich (founder of Ranger Knives) knife I had:

This sheath is simply a work of art. I almost didn't want to use it a lot because it was so beautifully crafted.... almost. He does a lot of work for Busse knives so he is used to big heavy blades and offers a variety of styles.

His prices are pretty good for completely custom work in my opinion and his turn-around time is extremely good. It was around 3 weeks when I ordered and it is now 10-14 days!! That is unheard of for most custom makers of nearly anything.

I should also note that after the knife was done, Justin offered to ship it directly to Charlie for the sheath molding which saved me the money from having to ship it myself.

I've got one of MBHanzo's sheaths (a survival rig actually) for my RC-4 and the JRE boys are working up something for my RC-3 and Izula.

I'd recommend them both heartily over and over again. :D

DirtPig67, thats cool, guess who is making my knife also:D. Yeah, quick turn around (2 weeks, and he went to blade !!!)). I should be getting it this week coming. Did you have to send them your knife to make & fit that sheath (really nice sheath & knife!!!!). Thanks, and thanks everyone who gave me some ideas and names, appreciate your time.
