I'm under the impression that a lot of makers here make purely fixed bladed knives. I'm wondering who makes folders? Also, where can one get some "shareware" designs for folder making? Is there a book that is "the resource" for how-to?

Hi Stonefish,I am making my first lock back folder from scratch, it is my latest project, and trust me it's not as easy as the fixed blades, but I am having a lot of fun and learning alot. Here are a few books that I have that you might want to get, " Custom Knifemaking" by Tim McCreight it has about 10 projects 2 of whitch are folders (1 slip joint and 1 lock back). Another good one is "How to make Folding knives" by Ron Lake,Frank Centofante and Wayn Clay, this is a really good how to book and where I am getting alot of info. from to build my lock back folder. This is one of the latest knife how to books out"How To Make Multi-Blade Folding Knives" by Eugene Shadley & Terry Davis, Foreword by Tony Bose. It is an Illustrated step - by - step guide, it covers design and construction, it also includes a directory of equipment & materials suppliers. These are some really great books to help with folder building. Your fat little buddy in the Texas Panhandle, Chris. Top of Texas Knives

I notice the Koval catalog has some folder kits if you want to ease into it gradually. Call 800-556-4837 and they'll send you the catalog. They have a website but about the only information there is that 800 number.
